I think it came from outer space

I have a solid black shinny rock. It is between the size of hickory nut and a walnut. It is very heavy. It would probably take 3 limestone rocks this size to weigh as much as this one.

I found it several years ago while arrow head hunting.

Yeah, if it's magnetic you may have a chunk of meteorite which equals big value.

I haven't tried a magnet, and I can't find the cord to my camera. I'll try the magnet.

Well the magnet didn't stick so I guess it's not from outer space.

it still could be from outer space but just not valuable.. I have several of the same type rocks you described and if you break them open it looks like they have "gold" inside them.. I sold 3 of them to a dept. head at the University of Sewanee on ebay a few years ago.. he did confirm they were from space but just trash rocks... I know where a whole bunch of them are out in a field we used to farm...

I found this one in a farm field along Little River here in Townsend. Little River sometimes floods this field. It may have come out of the Smoky Mountains.

It's not as heavy as a piece of lead this size. I don't want to break it open to see what is inside.

Without seeing it, its hard to say what it might be. The first thing that came to my mind though was a piece of iron ore.
