I need some scope advice

I'm looking for a scope for long range shooting. I have a .338 Lapua on order (if it ever gets here) but I'm looking for recomendations on good glass. I would like to find something in the 6x24x40 or 50 neighborhood with mildot reticle and target knobs without breaking the bank. I have limited myself to $1,000 but would rather be closer to $500-$700 range. I would be willing to step down on magnification if it meant getting a scope that would be higher quality. I just really have to have something that will hold zero and track true.
 
Leupold Mk 4 but its gonna be at the upper end of your budget and I wouldn't be scared to find a used one.
 
Another vote for Nightforce. I bought one about a year ago and I have never regretted it. If High Speed Turrets and Zero Stops are not important, you might be able to find a good deal on a used one.
 
I dont own one but have shot one a little,,,if I was doing what you are fixing to get into I would have to try the Sightron SIII,,it has all the features you need to shoot the way you are going to have to,and make hits at the ranges the 338 LM is capable,

but I can not find where it lists how much adjustments it has,,

I know for fact with a 250 yard zero,you need 22 MOA to get to 1000 with the 300 gr bullet,,and 53 MOA to get to 1500,some of these bigger scope only have like 40 MOA of adjustments ,which just will not get it done,the Night Force 5.5-22x56 has 100 MOA and the Leupold Mark 4 has 100 and the Leupold LR/T has 90,,but you have to know that you will need a 20 and maybe a 40 MOA taper base to get the adjustments all the way down as low as possible to actually be able to use all your adjustments,

if you just put the scope on a regular base and the scope is centered and only has 40-50 Minutes of adjustment,you wont be able to actually use but half of your adjustments,,

I would try and find out how much adjustments the SIII has and if it is 75 MOA or more I would try this scope,,

There are some Bushnell elites that fit your needs. Elites are built in Japan by Light Optic Works. Good scopes. Vortex makes a decent scope.

I would not recommend this site at all. I became a member and with 3 days I got a virus from it on my laptop and my computer at work. Completely trashed the laptop and costed my boss a bunch for my work computer.

To answer the OP's question. Leupold Mk4 American made and the best warranty in the industry. Get a used one, save hundreds.

What you need to know?Excellant low light pickup,built like a tank and mine never loses adjustment.A good 900.00 1000.00 scope..
