I need a range finder

With getting unto archery finally I've found out my depth perception is WAY OFF! So I need a range finder to help me out. Nothing to expensive and fancy. I need something to tell me how far away my animal is. What do y'all suggest? Thanks in advance!

I have an older Simmons model that they don't make anymore, but it has worked out well for me. This one gets pretty good reviews at Wally World, and it won't break the bank either.

Not sure of where you hunt if it is private or public. But if you are only on private land and using the same stand sites just mark has noted above. But if archery hunting public land where you may not be in the same tree everytime and could be all over the place then I recommend a rangefinder. I hunt public land only and I like to hunt high at between 20' and 25' with a bow. So I use a angle compensator range finder since some days I climb up in a tree in the dark I have never been in before. And since you are bowhunting you don't need one that lases targets out to 1500 yards. You can get a pretty good one for your needs for about $150.00 on Midway USA

I'd get a sig kilo if I was to get another. I currently have a vortex 1800 which is way more than what you need and possibly more than you to spend

I have the Nikon arrow Id. It works good and has the angle compensation

Plus 1 on the Sig Kilo, I have one and it does everything I need it to do.

I have an old Bushnell range finder I got at Bass pro about 10 years ago and it has angle compensation and that is probably the best tool I have ever bought for bowhunting besides my actual bow.

+1 for the Halo. I bought one probly 7 or 8 years ago and has worked flawlessly. Its a bit of a treasure in my house because my wife always re-appropriates it for her golf bag lol

I doubt it since it looks to be designed to mount to the riser of a compound. The one I had would not go on a crossbow for sure.

I got the tidewe one off of Amazon last fall. Think I gave about $80 bucks for it. Like yourself I mainly use mine for archery season. If by chance I get a buck in a field in West Tn or Ky that's still I might try to get a range before shooting.

I like using it for the magnification, and don't have to tote binoculars along as well as the range finder. So I use mine all year long, even if I don't use the range function.

I believe the one I have is a Vortex Impact 850 and it's Crystal clear and easy to use. I love the scan mode of it. I went with Vortex not only for how well it works but the lifetime warranty. I believe out the door was like $145ish if I remember

Edit: I was wrong about the brand. I use this inexpensive one from Simmons. It was a package deal with a pair of 10X42 binoculars. It's going on 2 years, I do believe.

Anyone remember the old kind where you had to turn the dial and align the mirrors? I can remember scratching and saving as a kid to get the money and buy one lol.

Eli when you get it use it a lot... try estimating distances then checking with the range finder. Cause you may do like I did yesterday and leave it in the truck

Just remember bow hunting is how close you can get to the game not how far you can shoot at game.

Not to try to start any big debate, I have a red field 450 without a angle compensation. I generally aim low on a deer out of the tree with a bow anyway. I'm sure there's some kind of formula out there for distance from the tree/hight of stand . I might be wrong but I wouldn't think that it would matter a great deal especially if you aim low for the deer ducking the string and I wonder how well one would work shooting down the mountain say to the next flat? I've always just aimed about 3" lower than I want to hit and it's served me pretty well.

The way I used to do it and at times still do if I'm not to familiar with stand site . I always forget to get my rangefinder out of my pack .
