I know this has been asked before but

when a weather site says the wind is 4 mph SW does that mean it is blowing to the SW or from the SW? I've always thought from, and have used that method without fail for seasons, but recently it seems that the wind is blowing to instead of from. i check afterwards to see what was observed and it still says SW, so i am confused.

They usually say where the wind is coming from. "Winds out of the SW", for example. With that said, here...the wind changes directions every few minutes, it seems.

that is what i thought, but like BigD said they seem to change every few minutes. one minute the wind is blowing from the SW or to the NE and then it seems they are blowing from the NE or to the SW. Oh well guess all i can do id hunt off what i know.

Wind blows, it doesn't suck. That is the direction it is coming from. Blow on your hand. The air hitting your hand is coming FROM your mouth.

I don't know about that. When I was at the Univ. of Oklahoma, we always said that the wind came out of the south so often in Oklahoma because Texas blows and Kansas sucks! ;)

I have neverheard anyone say, "The wind is blowing toward the (direction). It is always blowing from.

In TN, we say the same about Alabama and Kentucky.
