But what is your favorite spring and summer food plots....And what gives the highest protien, and nutrients to the deer and wildlife????




Now i like the peas but looking at putting some good food plots up in Ohio ... something that will really give the bucks some good protien

Its hard to beat LAB LAB for summer time plots, if your plots are large enough that the deer wont over browse it before it gets started good. I think another good choice would also be SoybeanMan's soybeans, but I have not tried them.

Dont know about the protein and nutrients but these are my favorites. I have low pH soil that is very rocky so I cant just grow what I want though.

Spring/Summer-All the annual and perrenial clovers that I planted in the Fall will be coming on strong for the Spring and hopefully survive summer drought.

Also like to plant buckwheat.

Thats it since I will be tilling under in the Fall. Main thing is native habitat/forest management for this time period, not food plots.

The plant itself is just a small part of what deer get from food plots,.. its far more important to have the right amount of fertilizer and lime applied than what plant you put in the ground.
If you have over 2 acres of plot,. its hard to beat a good mix of soybean,lablab,corn, and peas for a annual planting. Buckwheat works better for smaller plots.
Overall,.. i still favor a mix of white clover/red clover/chicory mix planted in the fall for a perennial plot or a arrowleaf clover/red clover/chicory mix for a 1 time a year annual mix replanted every september.

I plant jump start ditch weed all year. If it makes a crop, I can afford to hunt anywhere I want. I got my starter seeds from BSK and since then have been getting them from NE.
