I have one problem.

stock on my new muzzleloader is too LONG.
thumbhole stock..love it
but when dressed in layers, I can't position it correctly and I missed a shot on a buck because I wasn't comfortable with my position so I didn't shoot.

I called cva about it and they wanted to sell me another stock.
I don't want another stock, but would like to know if anyone has cut down a thumbhole stock lately and if it is hollow or not.

Doe I have never cut down a syn stock only wood,but most syn. stocks I've seen are hollow inside some have like brace's moulded into them. I would think the problem would be remounting the recoil pad as some I've seen on syn. have a small shoulder on the pad that fits in side the stock. PM me with what town you live in and I'll see if theres a trustworhty smith near by.

I kinda had the same problem with mine. I like the stock but I would have to stretch way up the stock to see out of the scope. I fixed it with a different scope.

Tikk, I have one gunsmith I trust, but was hoping Frank could do the work.
I suppose I might try asking at cva again.

I cut down a synthetic Encore stock for my son last year. By removing the butt pad, I could see ribs that the butt pad screws fastened to. These ribs were running lengthwise inside the stock and could be re-drilled if needed. I used a dremel tool to cut (actually burn) about 2 inches off the stock and then made a new butt plate out of 3/16 plywood. A sims slip-on pad covers all the carnage, and works like a charm. Fits my 7 year old perfectly. He has killed 5 deer with this set-up (2 last year, three so far this year). Hope it works out for you. TRHC.
