So opening day I saw a good amount of does early and then when climbing down my chosen tree I had one behind me about 20 yards that I spooked off. I have been to this tree a couple more times now and have yet to see anything again. I am wondering if I should choose another tree in another location by scouting some on my way out today. What should I look for? I hunt public land and this is only my second season. I just wanna get my first be it a doe or what have you. I just want deer meat. I felt like I have been sitting on a decent spot due to seeing deer here in the past and amount of nuts on the ground. The deer and chipmunks are tearing my area up but no deer. Help

Well, I'd sure scout, I hardly ever stop when I am on new ground. Never know what you will find. I would not worry too much about nuts, they are everywhere unless you find a tree with obvious deer sign under it.
It was me, I would be looking for trails that show recent activity and I wouold not worry about where they went or came from. If deer are using it, it doesn't really matter.

Try locating some funnels...I usually have luck when I set up within range of funnels
In just pure woods what would a funnel look like? I know how it would surrounded by crop fields and whatnot. There is a white oak tree to my right about 15 Yd but I'm not sure if it has been dropping I didn't notice it til a few moments ago

Funnels where a couple or more trails come together...at my place I have them coming down off the mountain in more than one place and meeting in a few places...or, one off the mountain meeting a couple from the field...They may come from various areas and meet to take the same trail for bedding or for eating...multiple trails meeting

Last two weeks most deer I saw were in late-afternoon. With your spot being public land I would imagine your lack of sightings has anything to do with that one deer. Look for thickest jungle on the whole place and then find the first whitoak u see in the edge of it in hardwoods. They dont have to travel far from bedding areast with all the acorns there are on the ground this yr.
