I keep thinking about my grill full of teal and my skillet with good hot olive oil with a salt & peppered slice of duck breast. :D
 
Suspect i'll shoot my first LA blue wing teal in a little over two weeks now!

Thank goodness. I ate my last bit of duck a little over three weeks ago!
 
I'm stoked as well. I don't have a lot of time to scout but I know that if you get lucky you can find woodies and teal on Percy Priest, I have a few spots in mind that I plan to take a look at this and next week.

i'd like to go somewhere a man could shoot a limit a day, for 3 or 4 days. that would be a fun trip. if you could teal hunt the mornings and doves in the evenings, for about a week, it would be epic.

anybody know of such a place or outfitter?

Teal are here today gone tomorrow, especially off the flyway. I'd find a woodie spot now, and then try to find teal a day or two before, but not much sooner.

I learned last year that they are NOT here today and are there tomorrow.
My son and I went last year and if you duck hunt you can understand what we went through.
Ran the boat till we ran out of water.
Walked & pulled the boat through a couple inches of water with knee deep black stinking mud under it.
Literally pushed the boat up onto the mud behind some cover.
Sat in the boat, hunted and got eat UP by skeeters.
It is amazing the amount of suction that is created by a jon boat with two people in it sitting on top of black stinking mud.
Finally got the boat loose and left.
Saw one woodie (teal only season)

That evening he asks, "Are you going back tomorrow?"
HEYAL NO !!!

Of course he went back.
They killed 3 limits in like 45 minutes and had groups of 50-75 swooping them as they were picking up the decoys. :shock:

Yea that's what I hear. A few guys on the forum have been pretty helpful as I try to make some progress on the learning curve here. One told me you have to hunt every day of the early teal season around here to have one good hunt.

Honestly if I could just manage to throw out some decoys and successfully call in and kill one duck for this early season I'd be thrilled. Woodie or teal, I don't care. Ok maybe two ducks, they're small.

I bought some used dekes from a forum member that just need a bit of touch up paint, no biggie. Also got a green and blue wing teal mojo pack on sale from Cabelas thanks to a bday gift card! I have been doing a lot of practicing with my calls and I am so excited to give this a go.

Haven't had a chance yet to get out and scout. I have Saturday morning to find a spot and that's really it, maybe Friday after work too. Next week I'll be slammed at work. I'm not sure whether to scout Old Hick or JPP. I know on Old Hick I don't have to be in a blind for the early season so that's what I'm leaning towards. I know the teal are hit or miss anywhere so I might get lucky and have a group fly by one morning.

Man was like SHHHHHHHHH it's teal !!!!

Sound like little jets and I was shocked at how far away I could hear them.

The one and only time I have gotten into teal in the early season, I shot 3 for 3 with a scotch double on the first shot. This was a couple years ago when the limit was 4, and I was by myself so you'll just have to take my word for it. I just picked up and went home. I had a very poor showing on the dove field the week prior, and those teal looked like they were hovering.

Never fails us when we are picking up decoys we have a big flock trying to get into our hole!
