I went to a Prairie Chuck down in Georgia this morning. I had a good group going at 300 yards and the pulled one shot to the right and went from first place to second place. It wasn't the wind. It was nerves and hurrying the shot. I would have had about a one inch group without that one shot. I did manage to hit the quarter inch dot in the center of the target with one of my five shots and won a pocket knife offered as a prize for such and the second place money. I've got to get some tranquilizers before a match, LOL.

Nice shootin Tex! I won a bet on 500 meters once and placed 10 out of 10 in the head of a silouette target with open sites. Playing around at the range on pre-qual day.

That is a seriously tight group for sure...what were you shooting? Weapon/Ammo?

I was shooting the 6BRX that I built back about a year and a half ago on a Remington 700 ADL action with a Kreiger barrel and a Richard Franklin stock. That group should have been quite a bit smaller than an inch if not for jitters. I had fireformed a hundred cases in it and then fired only about twenty five shots since then. This was the first time I've even shot the rifle at over 200 yards and I zeroed it at 300 for the first time with my sighter shots for the match. All told I was happy with it's first outing.

Varget is all I've tried Tim. I'm shooting a very mild load under the 108 Berger seated .010 off in a no turn neck with Lapua Brass. Last week when zeroing it shot a .35" group dead on at 200 so I expected more than I did. I cranked in what I thought would be the elevation for 300 yards and was surprized to find it about two inches high. The rifle shoots much better than I do. I shot two nines a little left, then lost one wide right barely hitting the chuck (my fault...not wind or rifle) and then the last two were in the ten ring with the last of those two cutting the quarter inch center. Shooters did well with 4 out of the 22 cutting the center and winning a pocket knife. Two of those were custom actioned 30 BRs and the other was in the same modified factory class as mine.

Nyquil...it'll make you steady as a rock. Just don't take too much and doze off!

Whelen Man,
Some push-ups before practice shooting will usually raise your breathing and heart rate to pre-shot-at-a-match-jitters! It also helps if you press the tip of your tongue into the back of your front teeth. Seriously, the tongue to teeth method causes you to breathe through your nose and puts pressure on a natural relaxation point...kinda like rubbing a crocodile to sleep by petting it's belly ;) Good shooting too :)
