Does anyone know if you can get TEXT to display on the HuntStand app? I am not using the paid version.

I dont know even though I use the paid version. Following to find out. I hate the new layout.
I have the pro version, and I am pretty sure you can using the tools. You can select other in the markers and you can give a description there. It may not show up on the map as text, but will in a drop down.

Same here. I quit subscribing when they changed things up. Charging more for a less intuitive, less capable app IMO, as well as started charging more for features that used to be included. Way too complicated for me.
I never could use Huntstand but I also don't claim to be very tech savvy. I switched over to OnX several years ago and for me, it's MUCH more user friendly. That being said, I have the Elite version because I'm in multiple states so that might make a difference.

Huntstand has gone to crap, half the time it wont load or doesnt update. Its been my go to app for years but after the last update its nearly useless now. Ive got the paid subscription but I also went and paid for OnX which so far im not real impressed with, maybe its just a learning curve though.

I've had HuntStand for many years. I've got the paid version not the top version though. I don't see the need in it. But I honestly use CalTopo more. Way better mapping in my opinion. They also have lidar free of charge and have for several years. They don't call it lidar I don't think but that's what it is.
Caltopo is actually pretty darn good.
My renewal for huntstand pro is due in late November or December, I will probably cancel and go with something else as it's really not user friendly.
I like caltopo but haven't used it on my phone yet. I've only used it on my desktop so far.

Does anyone even know what the icon on the top right of map does? My screen just goes blank if I touch it.
I've not used it enough to have an opinion, and my experience was several years ago when both apps were still relatively new. I chose huntstand. Now I no longer like huntstand so perhaps I'll try onx
I switched to Onx after the Huntstand update as I hated it. I had always used Huntstand. I had to make a last minute switch last year as I was headed to KY to scout a WMA. I had done a bunch of virtual scouting with areas to put boots on the ground at. When Hunstand changed, I couldn't even zoom in to see property boundaries which was pretty important going to a new area. I am satisfied with Onx and the learning curve was no problem.

I went from OnX to Hunstand about 3 years ago. I liked the Huntstand maps much better, but the upgrade really turned me off. I recently compared Huntstand to Spartan Forge and to Huntwise. Spartan Forge and Huntwise don't have a measurement tool. You can't change the color of Huntwise's waypoints (other than the category). You can create hunt areas in Huntwise, but not in Spartan Forge. None of the apps, other than OnX, allow you to export waypoints.
I share Hunstand waypoints and management areas with others and the maps are some of the best. I decided to stay with Huntstand for its maps and management area sharing, and Spartan Forge for its LIDAR.

Been using Huntstand for a while now, and I like it for what I use it for. Honestly, I do not use it constantly, mostly for wind patterns, so I did not notice the changes too much. I recently got the 3-month trial for OnX and I find it works pretty good, much like Huntstand was in the beginning. I like the hybrid layer that shows me the contours on the satellite view, and really like the 3d view, if that stays in the free version that would be great.

i know you didn't ask me, but I started using Hunt stand years ago and later got a free ONX account. Later I upgraded both OnX and Huntstand to the 2nd level for promotional purposes. With Huntstand I got a revolver camera free (GSM owns stealth cam and Huntstand). I have so much data in Huntstand and have used it so long it is hard to switch over to OnX but OnX has some pretty cool features.
The main issues I have with OnX is it doesn't appear to have as many overlays or Map types. Maybe if you pay the top amount, but I am not probably going to do that. Also I think you have to go to the top level to get multi state and my recollection is with Huntstand before I upgraded to the 2nd level I was looking at land in Ohio and other states.
I can still use Huntstand even though it has changed (not for the better IMO), so I will use it for now. If it continues to get worse, I am switching to OnX and calling it a day, unless I have to pay an arm and a leg then I will go back to old school google earth on my laptop.

Huntstand has this feature too, but not sure if it is free or included in upgrade I paid for. The update that Huntstand did made things different and not in a good way IMO. you have to pick the Hybrid map and on the overlays tab chose "contours" this keeps the map hybrid with the terrain lines over it. Not as definitive as a topo, but good for looking at tree cover with terrain.

3d in Huntstand is only on pro, so I have not used it, I don't know for sure but I suspect that OnX will lose that feature once my trial expires.

I'll stick with HuntStand I've got 10 years of data on it. I tried the free Onx but didn't see any reason to change. HuntStand and CalTopo is all I need. And I use HuntStand most of the time.
