My dad had mentioned he wanted to get back into the woods this year. And where he wanted to hunt. With several years having passed since I even thought about deer hunting on this farm I had to go look around for myself. Its pretty much a large open field with a small section of woods just behind a deep creek. I'll addmit it a challenge for a 30 year old to get in and out of. But a 60 year old is gonna be a true challenge. But none the less I looked it over where I felt the deer were moving the most. Close to one of the property lines is an old pond. I found a great funnel between the fence and the pond. Trail itself was worn down a great deal. Beyond the pond back years ago was so thick with saplings you would have to crawl on your hands and knees just to get through. Now....... those saplings are 30' tall. Though its still thicker than I'm use too it will provide a hunter with great cover. I did end up seeing one doe walking through the woods while I was there. She walked within 20 yards of me and never blew. I just stood and watched to see what and where she would go. Right to the funnel she went as I had thought. Yeah I've found a bow-hunting spot for myself. Satisfied with that spot I moved on across the road to check on a stand I had. Noticed 3 more does running away from the fourwheeler. Luckly our deer are use to seeing tractors and us being in the fields. Only one threw up a flag as they ran off. Since they were headed to the field I was just in I raced to higher ground to see where they went. As luck would have it they disappeared into the creek. Only yards where I had parked to look around in the woods. If the creek is to much for my dad I may have to give up my stand over looking the food plot. And take cover the creek instead.

At least you have a couple of options and know that there's deer on the place!

Good luck - my dad is 60 and still hunting a lot with me. Hopefully hunting season will be some inspiration for your dad to take care of himself and ensure good years ahead.

He use to hunt backs years ago. Ran into some trespassers that ended up pulling a gun on him and hasn't stepped foot in the woods since. So if he does make it this year it'll be the first time I've got to share the woods with my dad. Thats means alot.

I could build a bridge but the narrowest gap is about 30 ft wide. Been asking around about used telephone poles. But no luck. Where I work we make steel pipes for oil rigs. Gonna see if I can get my hands on some. Been trying to get in touch with the man that owns the property behind us to see if we can cross him. Be alot easier walk on dad.
