Hunting shows suck, so....

As long as people keep watching--and apparently many are--these shows will continue, and continue to be terrible.

I find them all hit or miss. Some I actually watch for enjoyment and for the other stuff like "Pigman". I like the Predator Hunting shows sometimes. The deer shows are hard for me to watch since as my friend Jakes says, "Deer hunting is waiting".

when my wife and i broke down and had dish installed, i insisted we get a package with at least one hunting channel. i have ended up with three some how. i thought this time of year id be watching them a lot but that's just not the case. all of these shows are so fake its hard to dumb my mind down enough to watch them.like every thing big money has got in on the hunting world and once again ruined it.maybe its just me but id rather watch a guy take a decent 120 class deer or even a doe .than watch these so called big shots kill 180" deer on places with hand fed deer then act like a idiot to convince me that it is about more than the money so when they start talking about a must have product that made it possible i want add 2+2 = bs.unfortunately i guess there's no money to be made off real hunters hunting common property shooting common deer and then telling the truth about it like you and i do every year but that's the show id watch if there was one!

Hunting shows are simply geared toward "comic book" hunters. Most of us realize the lies, gimmick products, unpressured deer they hunt, and the several other things that are wrong with the shows. Unforunately, through real life experiences most of us have found the majority of hunters or "license holders" are simply weekend warriors. These shows cater to these people for one reason: To sell their sponsors product. All comes down to money.

I agree. Most of the shows are made for stupid people that have more money than sense. The ones that will buy all the stupid sponsored products. I agree with you on the deer they kill on the shows too. Most are killed on a outfitters place and are super deer, not the kind that the average hunter will get to hunt.

Sadly there used to be and every once and a while a new one pops up. But it is only a matter of time, before they sell out to sponsors, so they can shoot big bucks in (Insert big buck state name here). Of course if they don't sell out, they fade away, due to lack of money.

Truth is it takes money to run a show, and I think the sponsors dictate more than we think, where they hunt, because they need their products associated with killing a big buck....

I prefer to read hunting stories than watch them, because the written word naturally highlights the stuff of interest but skips over the mundane, allowing the mind to visualize things in the way that is the most meaningful to the reader. A few supporting pictures seal the deal, and those are just as often about the environment of the hunt than the animal itself.

That's why I subscribe to 2 hunting magazines (F&S and Outdoor Life), but don't have a paid TV subscription service anymore. If I want to immerse myself in a hunting environment, I'd rather read about it from a legit hunter (or at the least, an excellent liar) than have complete confirmation of the fake situation on video.

By far the best show on any network is Bill Winke's Midwest Whitetail. He's more interested in helping viewers learn than he is in the production aspect. Of course, I also follow his semi-live series on his website www.midwestwhitetail.com If you're not tuned in everyday, then you should be. Him and the Drury's are the only guys that I truly trust. I was watching "Driven w/ Pat & Nicole" the other day and just laughed outloud. It's a joke how over the top dramatic they try to make everything. I get it, she's hot, but give me a break with all the slow motion shots and serious music.

I like the ones where they are hunting on their own property or lease. I watched 1 the other day where a guy hunted for 8 or 9 days straight and missed 2 nice bucks. I thought that was one of the best shows since there was no kill and actually portrayed how difficult it can be when you actually have to find the deer to kill them.

The only other reason to watch is to see somebody kill big bucks since I can't.

I don't enjoy many of them because as it has already been stated...they seem too fake. However, I do enjoy shows when they occasionally show a kid or a new hunter get a big deer...it is fun to watch their genuine excitement. My favorite show is Meat Eater. It's not a "deer hunting show" per se but I love the elements of mostly public land hunts, spot and stalk, occasional misses and the cooking. It is a well rounded show that has a sense of adventure and appeals to the "call of the wild" in us. I think it is a very well done show. Plus Steve Rinella is a very intelligent, thought provoking and articulate guy if you listened to any of his interviews or seen some of his Q&A sessions.

My favorite part of hunting shows are all the Wildgame Innovations commercials that there are these days. I especially love the ones were Lee & Tiffany talk about how WGI game cameras are the best game cameras on the market. It is amazing how they can be a fraction of the price of a Reconyx and still be the best game cameras. I also love "The Crush" theme. I try to buy "The Crush" branded products every chance I get because it's such a cool theme. It's even cooler than the "Bone Collector" theme. Tiffany is so hot and "The Crush" is so awesome that I'm thinking about selling my Treewalker climber and putting the cash toward a Summit The Crush Series Viper SD Ultra Climbing Treestand, which is only available at Bass Pro. I am secretly hoping Tiffany might divorce Lee and hunt with me once I "like" their Facebook page and let her know that I'm now hunting out of The Crush Summit Viper. Those of you with regular Summit Vipers need to control your jealousy. Not everyone is cool enough to hunt from The Crush Summit Viper. It comes with The Crush hunting DVD so I can watch it and dream about Tiffany while I'm hunting.

What would u do to change it up??

1. Never hunt an outfitters land or any stand they have hung

2. Never hunt over a feeder.

3. Scout and hang own stands

4. Make it more like reality. 150" bucks getting a "pass" is not reality.

5. Most importantly (imo) quit taking/making marginal shots and saying they were good. A deer quartering toward you at 40 yds is never an acceptable archery shot

MORE MANAGEMENT and how to obtain those goals......whatever they may be. Theres too much "well my grandpa said" pure bullcrap being taken as fact with today's hunters. Some has merit, but most is total bull.

There used to be a good show called "the management advantage" and it showed many different types of ways to manage for multiple types of habitats and wildlife and ponds.....but like most, the last time I watched it, they were spouting off sponsors during their segments and as someone with a wildlife and fisheries background, there is no room for bias in science.

I hate when they kill a buck that would be a dream to any of us....and they hardly get excited about it...like its just another day in the woods. Well it probably is for them, but excuse me Mr TV personality...i dont hunt on "ranches", have guides, or have unlimited $$ to get the latest and best equipment.
When i get to the point that seeing a doe no longer gets me excited, i will quit hunting. I would like to see these guys score on some of the public land that i've had to hunt. They couldnt do it and they wont. It might ruin their reputation.
However, i do like the shows where they take wounded warriors or children with disabilities or sickness, out to hunt.

One big negative that has come from hunting shows, apart from hunters setting false expectations for themselves, is my wife doesn't think a deer is "big" until it's 160" or better. I had a very large deer on camera last year (160+), and I think that threw her off even more. I was almost afraid to text her that I had killed a mid 120's 9 point a few weeks ago.

About the way I feel. I'll add that I have enough of the same ol' whitetail hunt over and over and over. But, I do enjoy watching kids get a deer and I also like to watch shows that hunt different things like moose, ram, etc...
I even like Jim Shockey simply because he hunts odd species.
