On the current area I am able to hunt. It has several bottom fields that are currently waist deep. Would it be better to bush hog them down or to just cut the perimeter and maybe a cut or two through the middle to try and "route" them? Not sure which is best. I have talked with a few hunters I know and they have done both. In previous years we cleared the whole field.

I would cut a few strips and leave most of it for bedding. I love hunting overgrown fields.

All of this is great advice...I killed my buck last year in a field that we hogged A few trail through and the deer couldn't stay out of there

I'd cut a few interior strips in strategic locations. I wouldn't make those cuts until just about muzzleloader season so that they wouldn't grow back before hunting. They don't have to be cut well in advance. The deer will start using them immediately.

I agree with all the above and I'd definitely NOT mow the whole field. Overgrown fields are prime deer cover. Bare fields usually give you only a very short time to make a shot at long range as deer tend to come out to look the field over before they run across to the other side. They are almost always running crossing a bare field.
