Looks like warm weather has returned this week to Tennessee. I plan on an afternoon hunt this week. Anybody hitting the woods this week and what are your expectations?

Do these "Indian Summers" change your plans or strategy?

I am not knowledgeable on this topic but did have a wise man tell me recently that this isn't really comparable because of their summer/winter coat.

Tennessee deer live in our variable climate. They experience the swings in temp just like we do. I do think on warmer days they move closer to the edges of daylight and move earlier in shady areas.

Oh you mean the weather??? Dang you had me reminiscing of a stripper I used to fall in love with every Saturday nighto_O

I sat last night and right at dark had buck I'm after come in to 53yds. I was temped to shoot because he was broadside and head down crunching on acorns, but for whatever reason it didn't feel right so I didn't even draw. I got down without alerting him and slow crawled to within 35yds but he spooked. Didn't raise his flag or run far before stopping to turn & look, then he turned and slowly wandered off opposite direction. I moved my stand in closer today at noon to intercept him if he comes out same area again, but I don't have much confidence. Had he not spooked I would feel better. But since he didn't spook bad or wind me or see me I think maybe there's a slim chance. Probably not but maybe.

So to answer the original question, yes I'll be hunting. Weather ain't stopping me. Deer are still moving just fine.

When gun starts Monday, I'll give it a shot. As dry as it is, I'll hear them coming (and the squirrels of course). Not like the "ghost deer" that suddenly appear in front of you from nowhere.

The Cheatham quota MZ hunt is the coming weekend. Looks like we're gonna be in the low 80's for day time highs. Don't plan to change much as far as hunting strategy goes. Might be wearing shorts and a T-shirt up in stand though. 🤣

I've seen deer moving during the middle of the day at 93*. Of course I was in the vehicle with AC on but they move all day long or have been around here. I can't stand hot weather but when I was younger I would be out all the time. As I've gotten older it seems anything above 70* is a no go. The bucks I've seen lately are moving early morning and late evening but the does have been moving all day. The best thing about summer is it finally goes away. Good Luck to everyone.
