So took my son to the lease this afternoon and sat in a blind over a field in the pouring rain. We didn't see squat but had fun. Is hunting fields in the pouring rain pretty pointless come December?

x2 pouring rain and rain are two different things. hunting in the rain imo doesn't matter how you set up you'll be surprise what you see pouring rain imo your wasting your time but you did have time with your son so it really wasn't a waste. but I am a huge believe in hunting in front during and after a rain. but I will not hunt in pouring rain.
 
I have killed a lot of deer in a light to moderate rain. I have never seen a deer in the pouring,heavy rain.
 
I hunted a huge chunk of farm land with lots of fields this evening In the rain. Decided to do something I hardly ever do, slowly quietly walk and try to get a shot on something. It was so wet and with the rain and wind I couldn't even hear my footsteps, after several several miles I didn't see not one thing. Just got nice and wet!

If you could hunt the field between the Franklin sewer plant and Mack hatcher, I bet you could limit out in the pouring rain. Dang city property...
 
Always had good luck when I hunt in the rain. Last year it was pouring in late November and thundering and lightning like he11. I had to get out of my all metal box stand it was scary. Watched 2 bucks chasing a doe all over but I left my rifle in the stand cause it was to close for comfort. The deer didnt give a rats butt about all that thunder and lightning. I have always been amazed the deer I've seen in rain. Always woods hunting though.
