What is the deal with the harvest totals? Anyone have any idea when or if it will be working right before the season is up? Everyday I go to check the WMA data but it has yet to work.

TWRA must feel that if they don't make the information available to us, then we can't complain about the changes in the regulations.

It appears that this may be back up and running. Although, I thought they'd killed 2 legal elk this year and its just reporting 1.

I take that back. I just tried to look up the WMA turkey hunts and they're not on it.

It's a new and improved hunters toolbox! The old one was outdated and worked way too well. Lol

I've sent TWRA 2 emails about it so far. I always try to compile WMA harvest data for the area I live and look at trends over several years. Hopefully they're working to resolve the issue but I'm like yall, the old system worked perfectly and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

i usually check out wma i hunt.i look at how many deer are killed.then i see how many does and how many bucks and how many points they are.i go back and forth on dates to see exactly when they are killed.now it just gives you total deer killed to this date.Doesnt tell you if buck or doe.I hope they get this fixed.cause its sucks at this point.

Its a garbage setup. I have no idea why they want to screw a good thing up, the old version was efficient and worked like a charm.

I couldn't agree with you more!!!! It's so frustrating that we had a very useful tool available and they go and fix something that wasn't broke! TWRA really short changes us when it comes to harvest data compared to neighboring states but the old version of the Hunters Toolbox gave us an idea of what was being harvested.

I see they removed the WMA option on the new system.

The only thing I ever used it for was to look at data for quota hunts. It's worthless to me now.

Junk. TWRA if you're listening, please consider reactivating the old "unimproved" reporting tool available...at least until you get an equivalent or better solution.

Our license dollars are going to be spent keeping the small elk herd alive not on a good online system. They finally realize that we didn't have the habitat needed for the elk, duh!

I'll back the elk herd over the Hunter's Toolbox.

Is the elk heard is some kind of trouble?

dig deep enough and you can see. Look at the results of the hunts lately. Look at a report that details deaths from malnutrition. There's been talk of supplemental feed and creating a lot more habitat. Problem is, you can't just create all that on a large enough scale to really help. KY got theirs through large scale strip mining, I don't think we want that and the coal market isn't there anyway anymore.

Speaking of elk and the hunters toolbox; the hunters toolbox is off by 50% from the TWRA press release for this year's harvest. I wonder how far off the deer data is?

I know the past couple years, the elk harvest has been down. Is it from herd issues, or could it be because TWRA doesn't give hunters enough time to prep, scout and learn their areas? Wasn't it just a couple years ago the elk drawings went from being a separate drawing earlier in the year to being the same time as the deer hunts? I think they could greatly increase the harvest if they drew the elk hunts the same time as the turkey hunts. That would give a successful applicant from March through September to learn the area and prep for the hunt. As it is now, they get around a month to prepare and scout an area that is several thousand acres.

Get the foil hats ready . The conspiracy is to treat hunters like mushrooms keep em in the dark and feed them crap. All while sneaking up the price of license and dropping the Tags.

Heck, they should be happy they get that long to scout. We submit a decades worth of quota applications just for a weekend bow hunt at Presidents Island and only get to scout the day before.

New toolbox is horrible. Don't see how anybody could say it's an improvement. Bring back the old one.

Not that it matters to the conspiracy theorists, but I touched base with TWRA this week on the Hunter's Toolbox. As expected, the changes were the result of the change in license vendors and the overall change in the system. The vendor, and the agency, had more important issues to deal with such as selling licenses and making sure the check in system was functioning than worrying about that database. It was a much lower priority.

With the new system up and running with a minimum of issues, the agency will have time to work on some other things that are attached to the system in the near future. I have been told that shortly after the first of the year that the IT and Wildlife Div (Nashville and regional) will be meeting to work on some of the glitches in the Hunter's Toolbox.

If you want to provide some input into that data system, I would suggest contacting your regional wildlife section and let them know what you liked about the "old" system, and anything you would like the new system to do. Just be aware that certain things such as linking names to kills are not doable due to federal law dealing with data in license bases. Writing in and saying the current Hunter's Toolbox sucks probably won't accomplish much, either.

Just like I said before---It's all about the dollar! The vendor change should have been made during the summer months when no Big Game seasons were open. That could have given enough time to get the bugs worked out. But it appears that whoever chose the new vendor didn't check for references. The new Hunter's Toolbox sux!!!

Sorry, but that is not the way the contracts work. The new vendor started when the old contract expired. And, as part of the bid process, references are checked. It apparently was a good choice, because the changeover occurred with a minimum of problems, and the agency seems to be pleased with the new system from comments from the Executive Director.

And, given the obvious, the priorities were to make sure the main functions of the system were operating correctly. And, you are right, the priority is about the dollar. Had the license system not functioned properly, there would have been major financial issues for TWRA as well as major headaches for hunters when they couldn't purchase a license. Having been through the original implementation of the electronic system, it is a given that there are bugs and issues to work out when it starts up. Fortunately, they seem to be a minimum this time around. The hunter's toolbox properly was a very low priority to be addressed when the major issues were taken care of.
