Hunt map VS xmap

I don't know either one of them. I use Huntstand. It has maps and you can go online to their website and use the maps on their website, so you are not looking at a 3" phone screen and then sync the map to your app on your phone. Online they have topo maps and everything. You can get like 10 property boundaries for free per month i think. So if you get a property to hunt you can add the boundary. They are pretty close to accurate, and then once you have the boundary you can lay the topo over it and see what terrain features you want to hunt inside the boundaries.

you can also share areas with people if you have their e-mail address associated with their account. You can also grab boundaries in MOST cases for public land.

I will say that I use onX religiously. Whether I hunt locally or out of state. OnX will have all property boundaries (public and private), topo overlays, satellite images, and hybrid images (satellite with topo). You can share waypoints with friends. onX also has a desktop website that you can view that will sync to your app.

What I find to be some of the coolest things about onX are the Nationwide layers. Previous and current wildfires, roadless areas, river stages, and weather radar. There are considerably more that I haven't named.

To be honest, I have the onX chips for a Garmin, and hardly use them. With onX you can save maps to your phone and use them when you have no cell service!

I started using onX this year and I love it. The offline maps are very useful for hunting areas with poor cell service. And the property lines are a huge plus

I use huntstand and think its pretty good.You can mark rubs and scrapes and all kinds of stuff.You can find out who own's any piece of land just by clicking it.wind direction and speed plus moon phases and minor and major feed times and bunch of other things also.

I use HuntStand, and for a GPS, Backcountry Navigator Pro is the bomb.
Download topo and aerial photo tiles for use offline.
Great app.

IIRC onxmaps will give you a free 7 day trial. I purchased my subscription after day four. $30 per year for a state and they have a nationwide option for something north of $100.

I already have/use free apps that show aerials and topos, with or without cell service (cache), so trying to see what all else onX offers for their yearly subscription.

Not trying to hi jack this thread, but id be curious what your thoughts were about this app after your trial. If you wouldn't mind after your trial period letting us know thumbs up or down and then what you recommend.

I really like onx because you can save the maps and use the gps in areas with out cell coverage. Plus it clearly shows properly boundaries.

Scoutlook is good for wind direction identification at different stand sites.

I have the HuntStand app it's great. But I also have a app called Gaia GPS it's awesome if you're somewhere like LBL that you're not real familiar with the gps works even if you don't have cell service. So unlike some of the handheld gps units that won't work with a lot of tree cover. You don't have to worry about that it's awesome you can mark trails waypoints and everything else just like the handheld Garmins.

Even if you only get onX for one state you can use the nationwide layers for the one state. There is an overlay feature that shows areas furthest away from roads. I've found it useful for public lands. What I like about onX is when you place a marker, there are several icons to label what the marker is ie treestand, deer sign, and quite a few more.

I use OnX Maps and I like it a lot. Very simple to use for the most part and straight forward with a lot of features.
