I really hate to post about this. But all you ever see is the success on any forum or social media. But what about our failures? They suck. Took off last Wednesday at dinner and decided I'd hunt until after thanksgiving. Something like 18 days off in a row to hunt. I've never done it. But it's been an adventure so far. Started out slow. Nothing seen until Friday morning. Had a small 3 point come in. Nothing that interested me and he got a pass. In a minute after leaving my view I seen him come down and below where my salt lick is. Rather odd to see one do like he did, but whatever. They just do their own thing. About a minute later the hillside erupted. Out came a doe wide open, followed by the 3 point. Figured he smelled her and the chase was on. While processing it, a shooter came out. I got him in the scope just as he went out of sight. Cool to see, but no shot. Nothing seen till Monday morning. Had a doe come running in off the top side. She took a hard turn and was gone faster than she came in. I cocked the hammer on the cva smokeless and got ready. He was a few seconds behind. Got him in my scope just as he stopped and looked down the hill. Let it fly and he just kinda stood there. While reloading he just eased over the hill, with what looked like a limp. I looked and looked and found absolutely no sign of a hit. Finally yesterday I seen more deer. 2 does came in. Nothing that I wanted to shoot and they got the pass. Had a one horned spike come thru and he got the pass as well. Fast forward to this morning and my spypoint a have blown up all night. Decent bodied buck with a subpar rack. With the help of y'all I decided if he presents me a shot I'll take it. Got settled in and finally seen movement about 200 yards out. Didn't catch the first deer but seen the second was a decent horned buck. Kept hoping they might come back. 20 minutes later I see movement and get on the gun. It's a buck with a decent horn. And another miss. At this point I'm beside myself. I've always took pride in my ability to shoot. I've took everything I possibly could to make these shots. Both misses are 120 yards and under. Both taken with smokeless guns, but completely different setups. Humble pie is what I'm being served, but I'm gonna keep trying. Probably get my daughter to give me some lessons as well as I need them lol. But I need to break this funk I'm in. It's terrible.

It happens to the best of us. MUP and I both have posted about missing recently! I'm sure others have too. Just keep hunting. You'll redeem yourself!

I wished that I had something to offer, but I don't. Just hang in there. I'm sure there isn't a hunter out there that hasn't missed a shot.

Welp. If it makes you feel any better, i haven't released a single arrow this season yet. I've seen one shooter buck and he caught wind of me and high tailed it outta there. I wanted to challenge myself this season to not pick up a muzzleloader or rifle and stick with my bow all season. Past few times i've been out i've seen nothing not even a shooter doe. Just a small fawn and little button bucks.... Getting all kinds of deer on camera, and never see them when i'm hanging in a tree.

Yes, this has to be the worst year of misses I can remember since I've been on here. I had a terrible season back in 2013 myself, but this year it seems to be spread around a lot. Snake even had a tree jump in front of his buck this year if I recall correctly?

It hasn't been all doom and gloom. I've seen 2 shooter bucks, possibly the same one twice, but several people can't say that. I watched my daughter kill her first buck on the juvy hunt. I've seen 3 chases. Which far more than I've ever seen combined. I've seen a hawk catch a squirrel crossing the food plot. 6 bobcats. We've killed a coyote. All since juvy season. I watched my best buck twice from a tree stand in October. I've just failed my equipment at this point.

Water under the bridge....for peace of mind maybe shoot the gun on paper....but you still have several good days off to hunt!....stay after them! Good luck!

Gut shot a good buck on October 5th. Tracked over 4 miles with a dog the next day until he lost the trail.. Just an overall bad arrow. It was a complete chip shot. It sucks and i was tore up about it for a good two weeks. But that's bow hunting. Isn't the first or the last time it will happen. It just never doesn't suck.

Damn bullet's are social distancing.....

In all seriousness, a buddy at work had the same thing happen recently on 2 buck under a 100 yds. Long story short, we figured out he loaded his lighter powder charges instead of his newer (hotter) loads. He was sighting in with the hotter loads so he was missing low. Just something to check if you haven't already.

Heinz 57 catchup would've been "Heinz 1" if they'd have got'r done on the first try (just sayin)

Keep after it. You're getting opportunities which is always a good thing.

Me either! The few I've see have all been 50+ yds away. I've stayed on my bow through ML...payback time is near with the .243

I have 2 smokeless guns. One is set up for the field I hunt. 2775fps with 2" dialed in and it's good for anywhere that I can see. The other gun is setup as a tree stand/youth gun. 2250 or so FPS. Had 3" dialed in. Woulda had to hold upper portion of the body at 200 but no hold over. Both deer were roughly 110-120 yards. On bags and a front rest. The first deer was rushed. But I knew he was gonna bolt at any time. Today, I rushed, and have no idea why. Both guns shoot good. But am going to verify that I haven't messed up or nothing is off

Hang in there - plenty of misses all the way around I'm sure. If you've never missed you've never hunted.

If it makes you feel any better, I have yet to get in the woods this season due to injury. At least you have the opportunity to miss :) (or connect).

Happens to everyone who hunts long enough. I have notice in years past it seems to come in multiples, 2-3 misses or bad shots and then a good streak to follow. Your might be ready for the good streak now. I missed a good one this week due to palm saver on ram rod. Limb hung it getting in blind and action as soon as I got sat down equals not realizing it was out of place half covering barrel. Small cut on edge and a bent ram rod told the story after.

Well, I've been hunting just a handful of times and have seen a few deer, 5 bucks included and one "shooter" that I apparently missed. I did have a ground squirrel decide to run up behind me and dropkick me in the back trying to get me to move tho, that made me chuckle. LOL

Took this evening to verify everything is in order. And it is. The cva was roughly 2.5-3 inches high, which is what I had my scope set at. Savage was 2" high. Checked my rifle and it is an inch high. I should be able to hold on anything in the field, without ky windage, and kill. I've just gotta do my part.

First day of bow season missed 2 does within 20mins of each other with my crossbow equipped with red dot sight embarrassingly at around 25yds. I thought i was losing my mind!! Came back the next weekend and redeemed myself with a decent doe. Next I shot a bedded 4pt with crossbow watched him jump up limping. He proceeded to limp lie down limp lie down 4 times within site for about 30 to 45 min only to walk down the ridge never to he seen again. No blood no arrow. Definitely been a roller coaster season for me. Ive been blessed enough to put 2 in the freezer this year but shoulda coulda been more.

I hope my multiples are over lol.

Sorry to hear about that, Jason. I don't know if it makes you feel better or worse, but maybe you read my post about hitting a branch, busting a dud cap, and then having a hang fire all on the same deer, at under 40yd. That one worked out in the end, but my, was it stressful!

Sometimes things just happen, and I've definitely had those streaks when it seems that nothing goes right. But my, how much sweeter that makes it when things finally go right!!!

As much as I'd like to sleep in, I'm gonna keep at it. I keep telling myself it'll all come together, I just have to be there. Need to take a big deep breath next time before I ever decide to pull the trigger

ETA. I like a good redemption like yours. I hope to share mine before next season lol.

Ah yes, sweet redemption! After my horrible 2013 season, 2014 was the redeeming season for me. Killed a 130+ 10 pt with 6" brows, with the ML that season. Just have to keep at it, but I know, it's still tough to do, even for me now, knowing that it'll work out sooner or later.

It's the 2020 curse! I've had it too!

Redemption!
