no but i did read about a recall on them
so if you are thinking about used one do some research
the guns could fire when the bolt was closed

I actually was interested in one a few months ago. I liked the styly that Les Johnson used to shoot. It was the 1500 Axiom, I think. I was able to hold one at the NWTF show last month. I was not impressed at all after holding that cumbersome heavy rifle.

Yep the axiom is a big junky cumbersome son of a gun. The vanguard by weatherby is the same gun in a 7 pound package. I bought one in 22.250 as a backup yote rifle this yr and killed a few with it. It is a nice gun. Sending it off to have it dipped in natgear

I've got a Weatherby Vanguard in 7mm Rem Mag that was made by Howa as redblood stated. It shoots great and is a pretty nice gun for what I paid for it. They did have a recall on the bolt and they sent me a replacement. Never had a problem with it before or after the recall.

I like my Weatherby Vanguard in 7mm Rem Mag .

I have a Weatherby Vanguard in 30-06 (Howa 1500) and it is one of the most accurate rifles I have shot. I consistently get 1/2 MOA groups out of it. They are hard to beat for the money. The Axiom is an aftermarket stock made by Blackhawk and it is stupid. The fact that the Howa is sometimes outfitted with it should be no cause for blame on the rifle.

I have had a youth Howa wooden stocked in 243 Win that gave 1 1/2" groups with 20 " bbl and handled great. I have used a 1500 in 7mm-08 and by far the best shooting gun out of the box I have seen. All of my Howa rifles were in wood stocks. Had a 308 win in heavy bbl that was accurate but much too heavy and cumbersom for woods hunting. All had smooth actions with good trigger pull and 1 1/2 " grouping of 5 shots (usually better).
The rifles always were more accurate then my ability to target shoot. You may notice that the composite stocks have a LONG length of pull. That is the reason I have not added any Howa to my hunting arms in 5 years. I prefer 12 3/4 LOP for a hunting rifle and that is shorter than Howa has adopted.
Accuracy rivals Savage and Howa composite stocks are just stocks in my opinion.
