Has anyone messed with one of the Howa 1500 mini action rifles? I keep looking at them in a .223 but the long magazine hanging down and 2 stage trigger on them is something I'm not used to dealing with. It will mostly be for my boys to learn to shoot and hunt with once their big enough. Do they make a shorter magazine for them? It looks like they can be had for under $400 out the door right now.

The short bolt throw is all I know about them.

For a youngster learning to shoot the 223 is a great start.

Note: I have never been a Howa fan.

personally...I'd go with a youth model Axis or ADL Relatively same price.....accurate.....very much standard magazine, trigger, etc.

You can get a regular-sized after-market stock if you want one as the kids get older.

I did some quick research and am wondering why would speed be a factor in a 223 bolt gun? Ah, I see. In places where ownership of an AR is illegal and mags greater than 10 are illegal.
