How would you hunt this with a North wind?

Take a look at the piece of land below.

The red line is the property line. The right side, with the big X is land I do not have permission to hunt, nor do I have a way to cross that property as an easement to mine.

The yellow dot is a stand location that I hunt when the wind is out of the South. I approach directly from the North and it's a good setup.

How would you hunt it when the wind is out of the North? The blue is the stand location I like to hunt on those days, but I just don't have a way to get there other than approaching from the North.

Would you just skip this location entirely when the wind is out of the North?


EDIT: before anyone says anything about hunting that close to property lines and retrieving deer that aren't on my property - that's not a problem (without going in to details).

All you need to do is get on the down wind of the trails you expect the deer to travel. If you are worried about the approach, then come in from the opposite way or get there early. Also you can hunt when the wind is wrong if you can get up high enough over the trail between the terrain and the stand height. One of my best spots is 60 feet over the trail once I get 30 ft up a tree. I never get winded from that spot and everyone else avoids hunting there with that wind. If deer are traveling to and from the field then you will have to hunt east or west winds.Good luck.

It's just a really thick area that you can't get through. I suppose I could take a saw and cut a path some day...

If the west is really thick then I'd stay out of it, deer like that stuff. As for approach I think I would try coming down the eastern property line and just slip in from that angle. Although I do see what looks like a grown up field on the other propriety, if that holds bedding deer, I'd want to come in from the west side without going into that thicket

I wouldn't worry about the wind, I would hunt. Nobody and I MEAN no one what direction or where a deer will come from, ESPECIALLY a mature buck. I would do my best to play the wind, but I would not skip a day hunting if I felt it could be a good day to hunt because of the wind.

IMO, way to many overestimate their ability to know where a deer will travel or show up.

Take a sprayer and some loppers to make a trail so you can come in through the West. I've had to do this for entering through a power line. I cut some stuff on my way in then cut a little more on my way out.

I agree, I completely understand why one would want the wind in your favor but unfortunately the deer I hunt never like to do the same thing twice .

I would get as far west as legal, walk south to the property line, then northeasterly up the line and get to the blue stand.

Or, just get there 45 minutes early and go straight in from the field to the stand.
