I've had two different game cameras chewed on by squirrels / both were bad enough to allow rain water to get in and ruin the cameras. Have any of y'all had this happen before, and did you come up with a homemade fix to beat these tree rats? A couple of buddies suggested a lockbox (those can be expensive), and putting a rubber snake by the camera... below is a pic of one of the cameras the squirrels got.

Dang I'm glad I haven't run into that problem yet. Maybe some kind of oil based hot pepper mix you could put on the camera?

I do run lock boxes on all but two of the cheapest ones, protection from squirrels was one reason for using them. I have several boxes that have been gnawed on but they didn't hurt the camera, then one squirrel figured out how to gnaw on the face of the camera. So boxes aren't complete protection from them, that camera is now reserved for inside the house during vacation etc. Honestly don't know what would be 100 percent fool proof, but the rubber snake idea sounds good.
 
That's a shame. Maybe an owl decoy? I've used those over my garden. Good luck and let us know if you find a cost effective solution

I thought about that, but not sure how long-term that would be.
