How to keep an arrow handy with primitive bow?

I missed an oppertunity for a shot at a deer yesterday because she came in quick to my off side. I didnt have time to get ready for a shot.

When I get up a tree I hang my backpack on a hook and clip my quiver to my backpack. I hang my bow on another hook. To keep an arrow knocked on my bow (has no rest or shelf) I have to hold it the whole time with my bow hand.

Im trying to figure out how to keep an arrow handy with my bow as its hanging on a hook.

Any ideas? What do you guys do?

I've seen guys use a toothpick and rubber band. Supposedly the rubber band comes loose when you start your draw. I haven't tried this, so it may or may not work.

Kwik-Loc arrow holder. It's far from primitive but they are extremely handy. I used one on a ASL when I took it to the woods. Around 10 bucks from 3 Rivers.

I do this. or a similar version of this. I tried the rubber band with the toothpick but kept dropping the toothpick. I use a small cable tie and rubber band. I will try to take a pic of what I do on break.

this is a good option also.

in my line of thinking, 'primitive' is a relative term. I wouldn't worry if it was or wasn't, if it works and helps you enjoy your hunt, use it.

I glued 2 kwik-lok arrow holders to the back of my horse bow on either limb. The bow has significant reflex/deflex so it works out good. Now i hang my bow on a gear hook and clip an arrow to the back of the bow in the kwik-loks. Love it. Thanks.
Im gonna play around with the rubber band and tooth pick deal also.

just remember to have several on you. once you drop it out of the stand it's gone.
