I've been thinking about getting one, but don't know how much they cost "in the real world" since nobody around herer seems to stock them. Would really like to trade for one, as funds are limited, but may have to wait. Where can they be had and what is the going price?

Thanks and God Bless, Ryan

If you are savvy and quick - a used one can be found for $400-425 (blue/blue) - try Doug's site (my last two have come from there).

Do no be afraid to buy used. The action is worth $250 alone. Buy a new barrel if it won't shoot and you'll have a custom.

You will not have any success trying to trade for one here or elsewhere. People either want rid of them or you'll not pry one from their hands.

Good luck-

Thanks for the advice, checked them out and their new prices are very good, although they were out of used firearms. Gotta find an FFL, etc., but its a starting point. Gonna try to find a used one locally that I can look over, but no luck so far.

Don't need an FFL, it's still a muzzleloader, anybody can buy/ship/etc.

I got mine off modernmuzzleloader.com, one of the mods on there was selling his, it was used, but just like new, stainless/laminated thumbhole for $550 shipped. I felt like I stole it. You must check the classified section EVERY day, because as soon as somebody posts one, it is gone. I've seen several go through the boards on doug's also, but same story, they go as soon as they get posted, you have to be really watching for them. Good luck.

Bud's was requiring an FFL, just thought that it was classified different b/c it was smokeless? Guess I will give them a call/e-mail.

Midsouth Shooter's Supply in Clarksville has some in stock, just checked their website. They have been out of them for about a year.

Benton has one on hold for me! I've wanted one for a longtime, but this all came together real quick! Kid at Christmas feeling right now, guys! Waht powder is the consensus best for this gun? I have some reloder 7, but it is not one of the recomended powders from Savage is it?

Changed plans and ordered it from bud's, no ffl needed, but had to call in order. Should have it in 7-10 days. That website's links did not work, so if you have more info it would be greatly appreciated.

Works for me.

Do a search for Doug's Savage Muzzleloading Board.

Find load data at the top of the Savage Smokeless forum.

However, if you are new to the gun, try the "book" loads first.

43 grains of IMR SR-4759, 250 sst, Winchester W209 primer.
