...do full cape mounts on their birds? It's really easy to do and make for prettier displays than just the fans. I built a window box with a glass cover out of cedar fence boards and have the cape and fan, the feet and spurs, the beard, and the empty shot shell displayed and it looks great. This way it's good forever and all you have to do is clean the glass cover.

I remember the first jake I shot back around 1993. I was so proud of my accomplishment that I drove it around town and showed it off like it was a world record whitetail, LOL. One of my friends asked me if I was having a funeral for it.

Yep, a few short beards have taken a nap over the years. Some on purpose, a bunch on accident before I started being more careful. It will happen again
