HOW MANY STILL HAVE BUCKS HOLDING?

I still go a buck deer yesterday with a full rack and others a couple weeks ago! We typically have deer that shed late , breed, late, and come out of velvet later than the rest of the state. Anyone else have a some still holding?

I don't have any cameras out but have seen a 6 point the last couple days with both sides. Weird alot of ours shedded early this year.

Think they have all dropped here. Have had a bachelors group of 6 or 7 bucks in my wheat and clover plot a lot the last couple weeks, and some are showing new growth.

I saw on the Hatfield Knob Elk camera yesterday a bull elk that still had 1 side.

Due to the drought conditions last fall, and the acorn crop failure, our local deer were in terrible shape going into winter. Most of our bucks dropped antlers insanely early (late December and early January). However, I stopped running cameras mid-January, so I don't know if any held on. Normally, we see some bucks still carrying early April, but I seriously doubt it this year (although a cannot confirm).

Most of mine already have 1-3in velvet bulbs right now. Didn't see any racked bucks this past weekend.

Saw an Elk on the elk cam last week that was still holding on to one side.

Elk antler drop timing may be very different than those of white-tailed deer. I have family in elk and mule deer country, and the mule deer have VERY different timing from our whitetails (at least the mule deer in the Southwest).

Mule deer here (Wyoming) can start dropping in February but most will be March. Elk hold far longer than deer and average April to may. The one that surprised me was moose that drop in December and January.

Our bucks in Bedford County (our small place that is) were still holding as of last wknd. Saw 6 of them together while turkey hunting and all still had their racks.

Yesterday, saw a yearling buck cross the road in front of my truck (suburban Nashville) who already had 1 1/2" velvet nubs.
