I was scoping out a place on public land a couple weeks ago and a young man (from Pennsylvania)stopped me on the way out.. have you seen any turkeys? None around here not even a scratch but on the other road about half way in lots of tracks around the food plot.

I believe God made an exception about lying when it comes to turkey hunting. Even preachers who are hardcore turkey hunters will lie about where birds are.

Lol! This was the first track found since the rain Wed in 10 miles hiking. Pretty easy for me to step out every track I come across!

I prefer to find nests, pull every egg out line them up and play hop scotch using them as targets.

I look for stomped out and smeared areas and know this is where I need to listen.

I used to do it religiously, but can't remember the last time I did. If he's in the area, I can usually get him to at least shock gobble, even if he's henned up. If he'll gobble one time, that's all I need to know.

IMO it's more a matter of cutting your teeth turkey hunting in areas with low populations. Public or private...low populations and high hunter populations make for interesting tactics and ethics.
