I just picked up a traditions Buck hunter. 50 cal ml off a buddy for dirt cheap. Its in great shape but I'm wondering if anyone has shot one, can you shoot 150 grains out of it? I don't know too much about black powder. I have a cva wolf that is a mag and I know it can handle 150 although I only use 100.

I went looking on the net and found nothing that said it would handle a magnum charge. I believe Id stick with the 100 gr load or close to it.

I did the same thing. Same result! Thanks though.

Nothing here in Kansas that won't drop to a charge of 70-90 grs. of real blackpowder...can't see why it would take more than 100 grs. of replica powder there.

I saw on another forum where they were dicussing that very rifle. Several said that they were using 150 grs. Personal opinion is that I don't see the need in that much powder.

I shoot 90 loose & can go up to 150gr if I wanted to.
90gr kills well, and is very accurate me also.
I personally think 150 waists some powder and is unneeded for deer.

if i'm thinking right ur gun has a 24" barrel. start with 85ish and see what happens group wise for you. over 100 grains it will probably start throwing bullets all over the target.
