How Long?

How long can I keep a charge in the barrel of my ML? If it makes any diff, I own a Knight Revolution. I would remove the primer, of course, for safety. Thanks Ray

I have left it from 1 season to another in a nickel barrel with no issues firing,i wouldn't do that with a reg barrel as it might pit it. between hunts I leave it and no problems

As long as it doesn't get any moisture I leave mine loaded till I either shoot at a deer or end of season.
That is if the barrel is clean to start with.

I personally only leave mine in through ML season,but I'm a clean freak can't stand the idea of corrosion in my barrel.

I wasnt aware that they nickel plate the BORE of a barrel.

It somewhat depends on the powder used. Powders like Triple7 and Pyrodex degrade when not in a sealed container. High humidity can react with the compounds found in these powders. Such as Perchlorates and Sulphur compounds become corrosive when exposed to moisture.

Just going in and out of the cold can cause condensation in the bore.

Is not losing a few pennies worth of powder and a sabot worth the risk?....hardly...its a fools bet.

Fire the load or push it out if the hunting period last more than a few days when using most subs. BH209 is good for longer loaded periods assuming the load was not ruined by rain or snow.

For safety's sake I would unload. I got this photo from a friend. An acquaintance of his left his gun loaded last season and forgot. He put a load down to check it out for the up coming season(seems like he would have noticed something amiss)and this is the result.

I usually load mine and keep it loaded for a few day and if I don't kill a deer I'll take out the breech plug and push the load out. Clean it good and reload. I try and not keep it loaded for a long time.

Man he was lucky he wasn't killed! Always shoot mine and clean it well after season. Sabots and powder ain't cheap but it's cheaper than buying a new gun!
