how long does it take for deer to start eating new food plots?
this is the first year for them on property small turnip patch and a larger dove field with winter wheat? dont seem to be touching any of it have seen turkeys in the dove field but no deer.

Some good points made:

1) Because of the good red oak acorn crop in many areas, deer don't seem to be on the food plots as much as normal.

2) Unless you have exclusion cages, you really don't know how much food plot plants have been eaten versus what has grown.

3) Planting plants the local deer have never seen before can produce little usage the first year. Deer have to "learn" these plants are tasty/nutritious.

Another quick way is to check and see how many deer droppings are in the field, and how are the blades of the plants? Are they pointed or are the straight across, which means deer are feeding of them. For all the hunters talking about loaded oaks this year, we are seeing the same amount of farms in TN & KY that don't have Acorns!!!
