How far do a lot of you guys drive to fish the caney fork anyway.And where do you usually put in or are you guys mostly waders.
 
I have talked to lots of out of staters. I tried to help them the best I could. They come up with some silly questions. One guy asked me if it was ok to park by the water at happy hollow. I told him yes..........j/k
 
Was that the suv that floated down the river a couple years back?It is amazing how many people don't realize how quick that river rises.There is no telling how many i have had to take back across the river to thier cars.
 
I had to pull a guy off the sand bar one day. he was trying to load a boat and the water was rising and he was spinning. I took off running up the ramp to get my 4 wheel drive . I got to my truck quickly unhooked my trailer and took off down the ramp to pull him out. As I was driving down there a guy ( probably an out of stater) jumped in front of me yelling hey you lost your trailer.... I just laughed and kept on driving. Water was past my runner boards by the time I got him out. Happy hollow is fun when they turn 2 gens on.

Onerare- Are you old enough to remember the day Buddy Mason and his brother James had a taste or two and drove the tractor out on the bar and then went to sleep? They turned on two gens and the tractor went to Gordonsville.

Oh he11, that had to have been 35 years ago. Never mind.
 
Ive never heard that about buddy but i dont't doubt it with those two anything is possible.i will be 42 the 17th of this month.Dang that don't sound right I don't feel 42.
 
When they burned out Odell the first time, Buddy went into shock for a week. He had to drive 2 miles farther to get beer. But what killed me, he had enough whiskey in his trailer to open a liquor store. (he and I were neighbors at Cove Hollow before it went to he11).
 
Yeah i used to hang out out with a freind of mine at cove hollow and we did some limb linig and jugging amd walleye fishing, but that lake has got so crowded it is hard to enjoy.I don't even go to the lake on the weekend end anymore unless it is just to go hang out on the houseboat and have a cold one.
i know a lot has been said about how crowded the river has got but i dont think we have seen the worst yet.Just wait and see what happens when they get Laycock bridge open again and maybe put an interstate exchange in over close to Bettys Island.That will put even more people on that part of the river.The exchange may not happen but i don' think they are spending millions on that bridge just to connect Lancaster and Club Springs.
 
By the way I got a little curious and went to happy hollow and the dam today.Saw cars from at least 13 different counties.The most was from davidson with rutherford running a close second the williamson.No out of staters I was supprised at that.But I know at those two places alone there was at least 75 to 100 cars in all and I did not go out there till 3 o'clock.
 
I drive from La Vergne in Rutherford County.. Usually takes about an hour best I can remember. It has been a while. Last summer I would wade at Happy or just below the dam (not the pond). I've got a new boat that I want to try out but I'm waiting until colder weather sets in before I get back out there.
 
Probably.I have lived here all my life.Been running around on Center Hill Lake most of my life,been up and down the Caney Fork for years.You meet a lot of good people just enjoying the resources that we have.That is the way it should be.
 
I worked at Bon-L 20 years ago.My dad in law retired from there just last year.1 Bro in law still works there.Other bro in law used to work there but is a Logger now.Yep, we Probably know each other.I got the best girl out of three.Small world aint it.
 
The tractor deal was way more 20 years ago. I lived at Cove H back in 82-83. Neighbors were Buddy and Grace and Caddilac Wilson.

That Laycock bridge use to scare the heck out of me. Wondered why they were rebuiling it. Back when Thelma had the little cafe in Lancaster, I use to drive over that sucker after a high cholesterol breakfast. I also had permission to put in behind the cabin across from Richard Sampson's store. I always stopped and knocked before sliding the boat down behind the house. One morning, some young lady dressed in a smile and nothing else answered the door. I bruised several knuckles banging on that door after that. Richard and I use to swap knives everytime I stopped in. He was a rare breed they don't make anymore.
 
Richard was something else he used to call me Herb,never new why..My grandpa and John Sampson,and Richard were all pretty tight.Richard Gave me my first knife,I still have it.As for laycock i heard a story about Redbone Vaden.One time he and my brother in Law were going across it and the bridge was in such bad shape they would have to take a board up from behind them and put it across the hole in front of them to get across.I think I would have turned back.
 
Yep.You got it.Father in law tought me a bunch about gardening ,hunting ,and fishing,Dang fine man.i think the world of him.
 
One-that story is true, I did not see it happen but had to do the same thing one time. I did turn back...at least I backed up. never went over that sucker again.

There are some mighty fine people in that area. Odell, that would be Joel's late daddy in law, was one of the best. For some reason he always called my honey. One day I had about three ounces of gas left in my truck and stopped there and filled it up. Then I discovered I did not my wallet. When I layed my tale of woe on Odell, he said, "Honey, I aint the least little bit worried. I know exactly where you live. Just pay me next time through." I think Joel's wife was about six at the time.

I also use to hitchike from the Bettys back to the dam to get the truck. I don't think I ever had to walk more than 100 yards before somebody picked me up. Everybody wanted me to come hunt deer on their property. But it was all so straight up and down, I never went.

Dam good days, them ones.

Funny you should mention that....on another website a guy that lives next to HH was complaining about the piles of trash left in the parking lot over the weekend...it is a shame that Tennesseans will destroy their own state.

I drive about 25-35 miles.....

Well, if I were 42 again I'd..........probably make the same dumb ... mistakes that I did the first time around.
 
Yeah he always called me that. i alway liked Odell also.He used to bale hay for my dad years ogo.Before I was born.I remember I killed my first deer he checked it in 1981 and I was 15.A near perfect 8 point that prob scored between 110 and 120.He joked and said he could not figure why anyon would want to kill one of them government goats.Thats what him and Ray Burton always called deer was Government Goats.
