Hey y'all. I know it says I'm a new member but really I'm not. I just have a bad relationship with technology. Anyway, at 47 years old, I still can't sleep before the 1st hunt. I'm not even hunting today! I'm just gonna sit in a tree and hope I hear a shot from my son, but I'm still way too excited to sleep. I honestly can't think of one time in my life that I've been able to sleep before the opener, whether it was archery or gun. I wish you all great luck!

Been up since 130, I also have problems sleeping before the first hunt lol

Slept good. First hunting season in 39yrs without my dad - "the deer slayer". He could wack and stackem! He was if it is brown it's down. I tried the wait game for a nice buck and it is just not as much fun. He taught me hunting is fun! Be safe and enjoy hunting.

What is this thing you call sleep? I am not familiar with that term LOL

Let's go Brandon!! Oh wait….off subject

I sleep better these days but I sure remember those sleepless nights. I'm not too mad at em anymore but will always enjoy hunting regardless. Good luck to your son! Why aren't you hunting as well? You said you would be in a tree so why not tote a gun

Fitful. We've got an ongoing timber cut happening and for the first time in years, I had no idea where I would hunt. Things have been changing daily and I excel at overthinking. I finally decided just to walk in, find a comfortable spot, enjoy the woods, and hope for the best. That was at 3:43 this morning after sleeping for maybe 20 minutes.

Still better than being at work.

Welcome Brandon! Best of luck to you and your son. I am blessed to be hunting with my 28 year son today. To your question, I slept fours last night which was twice the sleep my son got!

my first in many years was 20 years ago. I had a dream of me standing on a knoll, deep woods all around. To my left about 75 yards was a pasture, I saw a buck walk down into a valley, as it passed a large tree I shot.

It happened just like that and I had no idea where I would be hunting, I was with the owner, he picked the area. Dropped dead on the spot, nice 8. Still a vivid memory.

I haven't slept like that since, now I just seem to want to sleep longer than normal. :)

Trust me, I know that feeling all too well. I'm two months shy of 63 but have hunted more than 50 years. Although excitement usually no longer keeps me awake the eve of opening day, I assure you that during a hunt I'm still just as pumped up with excitement as I was when I first began hunting back in the 1970s. If the day ever comes when I no longer feel that level excitement or enjoy just sitting on a oak ridge and watching the world wake up and come alive, that will be my signal to hang up all of my hunting equipment for the final time.
