how can I deal with the rain

I will be hunting in the rain over the weekend and I'm concerned about my gun. It's a winchester model 70 30 out 6 and I don't know how to care for it after it gets wet. I have always declined to let the rifle get wet but I have made provisions this weekend to hunt and I don't want to let the weather drive me to cancel.

My rifle is blue with natural wooden stock. Also, I have a cheap Bushnell scope, will the weather damage affect it as well? I have even considered taking saran wrap and maybe wrapping it around the chamber and the scope. I don't think this would work because it would interfere with the bolt cycling.

My plan is to take my gun cleaning kit and every evening after the hunt to do a good field cleaning on my rifle at the hotel. Dry the rifle immediately after the field.
I don't know if I will oil it liberally or if I will only use a silicon cloth. I recently read a report that remoil with Teflon can damage the wooden furniture on a weapon. Is there some type of substance I should treat the stock with? Thanks guys Merry Christmas

Just oil it down or spray with wd40 after the hunt. If its soaked you can remove the stock to let everything dry. Rifles are no stranger to rain.

A pair of scope caps can be invaluable for hunting in the rain. It's nice to be able to see what you're trying to shoot. ;) Don't worry about your gun. Mine are no strangers to getting soaked every now and then. The wife's hair dryer comes in handy for blowing the moisture out of the hard to reach places. A light coat of oil after drying and you're good to go.

All good advice. If you are really worried about it getting wet, leave it in the case until you are in a shooting house or under a camobrella. Keep a towel handy to dap it dry now and then.

Some on here say electrical tape over the barrel end to keep rain from pooling inside. That can effect accuracy, supposedly. We used to use a small piece of clear plastic or sandwich bag with a rubber band.

Make sure the case is a good one.
I tried this in the rains we having a couple of weeks ago. I was hunting with a vintage M1D and was trying to keep it as dry as possible.
I found out that my supposedly waterproof/reistant zippered case wasn't. Water got in and acted like a sponge.
WHen I got home, a good cleaning fixed it up, and the discolored leather cheekpad even returned to normal color.

make sure action is oiled and then wipe the gun dry after hunting. Some times the coating on the stock lets water soak in and the stock might look like crap till it dries out. I haven't had that problem since using spar urethane spray on my stock.

I read a recent magazine article where they did this (tape) and tested with and without. Absolutely no affect on accuracy.
On my MZ, I use the cut off fingers of black surgical gloves.
