Hornady Interlock ?

I switched to this bullet this year just to try something different. I'm shooting a 30/06 and using the 150gr bullet. I've shot 2 does with them and not happy with the results.
First doe was not recovered, not much blood and searched about 2 hrs and 400 yards. My rifle is zeroed at 150 and this deer was at 165 when shot, deer jumped and stumped as she ran off field. Like I said, very little blood, she went through a 6 ft ditch and up the other side, that's the last place we found blood.
I shot a doe Saturday morning. 90 yard shot, watched her jump and trot to the edge of woods. She stood there for over a minute then walked around behind a cedar tree before she fell. Upon recovery, very little blood loss even with a pass through shot taking out her heart. I tried to back track the blood trail but just couldn't find hardly any in the field even with snow on the ground.
Any body else have any experience with this bullet?

I have never used that particular bullet, but I am wondering if it is a little on the light side??? Most guys I know very rarely drop below 165 gr. with their '06's.

I had similar issues with Rem. core lok's in 175gr. in my 7mm mag. Perfect pass thru shots, very little blood, but never lost one.

I've been using the 165 gr Hornady Interbond in my 30-06 this year and last with good results (3 dead deer, and hopefully a couple more before the season is over). All were pass throughs, and all but one left good (and short!) blood trails. The shot on the one that didn't leave much of a blood trail was a lung shot at 110 yards that was higher than I intended, and in my experience a sparse blood trail is normal on those since most of the blood stays inside the chest cavity.

they are a great bullet but the 165 grain 30 calibers get much much better results out of a 30-06. try the 165 grain ones. You will love them.

I don;t shoot a 30-06, but I've shot 5 deer with a 140 gr .264 Interlock. All but one gave great blood trails for the short distance the deer went. The one that had no blood trail was a sever forward quartering shot that destroyed the heart, lungs, and one shoulder before lodging under the far-side skin. I have no complaints withteh bullet.

Poor bullet placement cancels all blame on the bullet. I'm not saying you made a bad hit; I'm just saying we don't know (and never will).

Are they the spire point 150gr bullets or the round nose? I got the RNs and discovered that they were designed for the 30-30 and the max velocity was 2500fps. The spire point should handle more speed. That may be something to look in to.
As for running after the shot some deer take it better than others i guess? I hit a large doe broadside at 50yds with a 308 165gr Nosler BT and completely hamburgered the heart and lungs and she made it about 50yds. The first 10-20yds of the trail were not that good and she really did not bleed good until the last few steps.

That's what I've been telling myself 'till Saturday. I just figured the lost doe was due to my bad shooting. Then when I recovered the doe Saturday and saw the shot placement and lack of blood it really got me wondering.

The Interlock is a great bullet I have never experienced your problem with them, most of the time they leave a blood trail Ray Charles could have followed. Try the 150gr SST these will open a little quicker than the regular Interlock SP or Interbond, in fact I switched back to the Interlock SP from the SST because of the damage and eventually settled on the Interbond since I shoot them out of my .300 WSM and needed something that would stay together. The 150gr Interbond's are a great bullet but will not leave a big exit. I shoot them out of my .300 WSM @ 3,336/fps and exits are usually about the size of quarter to half dollar but every deer I have shot with them have been DRT!

As for the Accubond I don't trust them. I shot this buck at 250yds using a .257 Weatherby with 110gr Accubonds and the exit was very small as you can see. There was no blood luckily he ran back down the road bed about 80yds...no blood is not good when your hunting road beds in 1,000 acres of 4yr old pines. I have read from others that have had the exact opposite happen, the Accubond acted like a Ballistic Tip and exploded with very little penetration.

Below is the only Interbond's I have ever recovered one out of a 240# bear with the 30/06 that went through his head and then went through his forearm resting just under the skin on the back side and the other out of a doe with the .300 WSM...shot her facing me @ 30yds and the bullet was about 2" from coming out her butt. Both retained about 70% of there weight. Sorry for the bad pics.
