Thinking that my son's Model Seven .260 Rem was at his house I loaded up some rounds at book length with H4350 today. Planned to take my measuring gear with me over to his house this weekend and measure to the lands and load more rounds accordingly. Well, I called him today and he informed me that I have the Model Seven and he was correct.

Ho-Lee deep throats MC! I got my measuring gear out, measured and the rounds that I loaded today at book length have an .060 jump.......wish I had known that dang rifle was here! After I get back from being stabbed 12 times tomorrow I'll load some at .030, .020 and maybe at .010. I'll just use the .060s to sight in since I took the scope off, removed the barreled action from the stock and gave this little rifle the 15 year cleaning that it's been needing. This stuff sho iz fun!!

These may work out just fine but all of my other loads, regardless of caliber, are best at somewhere between .030 and .015. It may have to do with the .003 neck tension that I go for on all my cases regardless of caliber. I don't really know. But, it I can get 1" with 3 shots at 200 yards I'm happy. I don't think this pencil barrel rifle will do that.

If I remember correctly you are loading Nosler Partitions. I have never loaded them at anything other than standard length and they always shot well.

Yes, that's what I'm loading and this is my first time using them. It's a flat base bullet and I'd not really fond of that type but I had them on hand, so........ and I have some Nosler PSPBT on the way.

I have killed a load of deer with them in my .280. The only oddball issue I ever had was with a doe I shot with one out of my .300WM. It hit a rib and tumbled really bad. Still killed her, but it looked like you took a box cutter to her chest.

Heck I have a load for my 6.5 CM using Hornady ELD-M 140 gr that initially had a .165" jump, and they shot great. When I measured the jump, I tuned it down to a .020" jump to achieve the same accuracy.

You may not be able to load out much longer and fit the magazine.

If you can consistently get 3 shots in an inch at A HUNDRED YARDS, it will be the best shooting model 7 Ive ever seen! Ive had a few and couldnt tolerate the crappy PATTERNS. Ive had people swear to me that their model 7 was a tack driver but when pressed to prove it, they have never been able to. I dont care how you do it, 3 shots right after the other, 3 shots waiting 10 minutes between, or 3 shots waiting a week between, Id love to see one that would do it!

Im not knocking your gun, quite the opposite in fact! I LOVE everything about the model 7 platform, I just never saw one that would shoot like I wanted it to. Ive got a Boyds laminated stock here for one in fact, just hoping SOMEDAY I will run across one that does what I want.

I have been loading same as DA's procedures since mid 1980's. Get the Velocity you want. Play with jump until you get accuracy you want. I keep all loads (but one) under .010. The one is my 22-250 and it likes 040. This is with Accubonds, NBT's, Partitions.

Mr. Big makes note of too long means no fit in magazine. Yep, I have two rifles that have one in chamber one on top of mag. Whole idea is not to miss on first shot.

A few rifles have tight SAAMI chambers-no messing with jump. I also have a few rifles where after quite a bit of testing I could not achieve accuracy objective. So I ask.....that is how I came to Varget in our 308's.

Curious why so much neck tension. Doesn't that work brass excessively?

3 thousandths is what I've always used and I know lots of others that use that measurement. It's enough to hold the bullet for my bolt rifles without having to crimp. These are varmint loads and I'm still tweaking to see what I can get.

I got a 708 ill put on the bench any day for that 1" @ 100. I agree ive shot several that wouldn't but my old blued wood gun will all day every day.

Model 7 this morning. RWS 308 case necked down 1st time firing. 44.5 grains Varget, 120 Nosler BT.
