Dang,
First of all, you have to wonder if Rick Hendrick isn't scratching his head wondering why he let a young talented driver go. Of course you can say there were maturity issues, but not many young drivers don't have those.

You certainly can't say the talent was lacking, cause he has burned up tracks since leaving.

But it's funny to me to remember back when Hendrick took on Dale JR, "with SOOOO much talent".

Bet that 1 win (which by the way was because he stayed out and risked feul mileage when everyone else pitted) is haunting Hendrick now don't ya think?

Maybe not, cause he's still got JJ to bring home the championships. But you have to wonder, If hendrick dropped JR, would anyone notice?

I keep forgetting Tony doesn't race for Gibbs anymore

:D

naw, hendrick knows what he is doing. its all about the dollar. kyle is real talented and has adapted to the new car better than most. he is the top dog now at JG and not in anybodys shadow now as he was at Hendrick. JG is a first class operation just like Hendrick. toyota is for real and they have exceptional motors too.they proved that last year on the dyno. yeah i think people would notice if jr was gone . kyle is on his game right now but it wont last forever,so i wouldnt buy too many t shirts and hats ;)

The only reason JR is driving a car is because of his Daddy. Now he is in the sport, the dollar follows him. He is by far the most popular race car driver there is in the sport. Rick knows the cash cow he has in Jr.

I always wondered if the #5 car wasnt a "test" car for Hendricks operation. Kyle not wanting to test for Hendrick, probably helped Kyle out the door.

Like him or not, Kyle is proving his talent now he has left Hendricks camp.

As for Kyle being on top of his game right now and it not lasting forever, dont buy hats and shirts....LOL Nothing last forever, but for lack of a better comparison... doent Kyle and his fan base remind you of Gordon driving for Ray? I think Kyle will be winning and around for a long time. As I have said before, I dont like him, I only pull for him when someone I dislike is ahead of him...lol

kerry was only driving because of his daddy, not jr.lol... as far as the #5 as a "test"car. texas terry drove that car for years and won championship so i dont know about that. i believe kyle tearing up alot of racecars was one of the reasons he was ousted and his attitude. did you see him in the nationwide race sat.after his pitcrew lost him the race(what a baby). i know anyone would be upset, but as they say.. you win and lose as a team. he'll get a spanking just like his brother did before too long. :o

gotta disagree he is young and can drive he won at Hendrick and he is winning at Gibbs, Bottom line he knows how to win. He wins in what ever level he is at be it Truck, Nationwide, or Cup. He is going to be around awhile because the kid loves to race. I think to many of the other drivers are driving around just collecting a paycheck.

Oh my goodness, did BackStraps just say that sometimes he pulled for Kyle?!

OH NO he di-dn't! :)

Boo KB!

LOL... You got me there! BUT PLEASE... dont forget only when someone I dislike is in front challenging for the win! I deserved all of that one Carlos!!!

YOU ARE SO RIGHT! There are way too many drivers logging laps and signing checks!

i agree he is a good driver, but what i was saying him winning 8 or 9 races a year is not going to last forever. he is on his game right now but i wouldnt expect last years stats to be the norm. i disagree with drivers out there just logging laps trying to collect a paycheck. these are suppost to be the best drivers in the world,so to say. most of them having been driving since they were kids and its their dream to be in the cup series. yeah the money is good but they earn it.

I love the way kyle Busch drives.. 1st or last. He drives to win every race. To him every lap is the last. If he was driving the #3 car the fans would love him ,same attitude..Dale Jr will neve be as good as his father.

I thought he matured a little this year listening to his interviews, but he restored my faith when he threw another fit and left his car sitting on the track. Wonder what would happen if after he spins out, the crew would just lockup the toolboxes and head back to the trailer throwing a fit? The guy has talent and you can't argue that, but I think he'd be very hard to work with.

Winning 8 or 9 races a year isnt the norm for anyone in the sport now days. Winning races each and every year would most likely be the norm for him for several years to come (Unless something drastic happens or changes)

As for drivers logging laps... it may have been a dream, and I am sure once drivers first hit the big time..they are racing hard... but with the $$ involved in sponsorship and how important making the chase is now... I still think drivers race hard the first of the rest, get settled down, log laps protect the car, nd race the last 50-100 laps!

Not just trying to
stirthepot.gif
either!

Jspal is dead on.

If they had secretly put Kyle in the 88, the fans would go nuts at what that car does. ANd then they'd boo him when he took his helmet off.

no question he wants to win every time he gets in a car, and he's willing to do it controversially if needed (rarely). And I'd be ticked also if folks on the team didn't match my intensity and skill. But there are things you do when disappointed, and things you don't.

Bottom line, don't even pretend Hendrick knows what he's doing. He made a mistake, it is OBVIOUS! If winning is what he wants, then he screwed up bigtime by letting Kyle go for JR.

It'd be like trading Tom Brady for Michael Vick.

HEY,, superboy kyle didnt have a good race at martinsville. what happened!! maybe jr should have been driving the 18 car this weekend. :/

Yeah the 18 would have been 10 spots worse if Jr would have been driving it. ;)

This is a funny comment... lets watch the rest of the races.. and compare how those 2 finish.. especially at the end of the year. Wonder if the 88 will even make the chase.
Hendrick said he knew what the problem was inside the 88 camp...
and was making adjustments. Maybe he found something?

I hate hearing that Tony Jr keeps catching the heat for the lack of performance... If JR cannot tell Tony Jr how the track and car is changing during the race...how can the crew chief make the adjustments needed?

he will make the chase,no doubt.jr has been saying to ease up on tony jr,and to place the blame on himself. they both need to communicate better with one another. how many times has jr had a good car and the last pit stop the car gets way over adjusted. the car will be a hair loose and after pitting he the car wont even turn.

well.. another classy move by ya'lls boy. truck race today and he doesnt win again and throws another tantrum and throws his helmet and runs to his plane to let his crew clean up the mess again. he need to get one of them "baby on board" signs to stick in his rear window

lets just look back over the last 2 years instead of the last race :)

It was reported as he was running off the track crying he said, "I'm going to tell my mommy on you guys, you can't do this to me, don't you know who I am"!

Im still waiting for JR to have this "good car" you speak of.

And yes, I believe Gordon is indeed a better driver than SR was.

How many ways can you dispute that?

if you have never noticed when jr had the car to beat and the car got overadjusted on the last stop, then start watching some races and quit being a monday morning nascar.com'er. gordon better than sr? dont have time to be playing patty cake with you.

Pretty hard to say who was better, too many things have changed to be able to make a fair comparison. Cars, tracks, tires, and equipment have changed. Would be interesting if you could take some of the younger drivers back in time and let them race with the older cars and drivers.

oakclimber said:
so what, gordon has more wins than dale sr. does that make gordon a better driver? i think not

are you serious? how else can you determine who the best drivers are I think wins would be the number one thing to look at. I know equipment has changed and the big money teams get the best cars, but Childress had/has money.

yeah I'm serious. Another way to determine the best driver is by championships. ;)

I will ask an easy question: This awful last pit stop you guys speak of..who is to say JR didnt get what he told the crew chief he needed? At least that is what I hear when I am on the scanner. That boy whines and cries, cusses Tony Jr, the pit crew, everyone! Because his car wont perform. I think he has a problem of knowing exactly what changes to make to the car...or what exactly the car is doing, OR lacking the ability to communicate and tell the crew chief what is up with the car. All of which are needed to be a good driver.

The "good" drivers... you know the ones that actually win a race every once and a while they can tell their crew chiefs what they the car needs, and the changes they think are best. I mean they are the guys in the seat, not the crew chief. The crew chief works ONLY with what the driver communicates.

You know something I always find funny is how the fans at a track will jump out of teir seats, yell, scream, cheer, wave their beers, etc "JUST" when JR takes the lead...ever wonder why?
I think they know they better do it while he is actually leading the race. They know the chances are the wont get to watch him win a race... lol

I am just pulling your chain, have fun with your comment back to me. PS: I am not a Kyle Fan (but enjoy reading his haters comments) so that wont be any fun for ya ;-)

1. all he can say is what the car is doing(tight, loose, etc). the crew chiefs responsibility is to fix that problem. how many positions does jr gain when he pits under green? most of the time he loses positions or he's the same when he comes out,so i dont believe its all his fault like some say. 2. what driver have you listened to that doesnt whine, cry or cusses(they all do). 3. yeah, "good" drivers do win races every once in a while(#24 hasn't won since 2007,so i guess he's not a good driver, huh). 4. the more cheers you get the more haters you get from other drivers fans. its true that jr does get alot of his fans from his father who is a 7 times cup champion. richard petty is a 7 time champion too,but how many kyle fans do you see? not very many(because he's not even competitive).
