Chestnuts area hitting the ground and the deer are fighting over them.

My parents had Chinese Chestnuts in their yard. Always hated stepping on those husks. Yowza...

But deer went crazy over them.
 
One of those were in my
Backyard growing up , we called it the "sticker ball tree" I probably still have some of those thorns in my feet 30 years later
 
Very interesting. Smaller spines than the Chinese variety.
They still hurt. :) Not sure how the deer eat these things. I put a camera on the largest tree and got plenty of does eating them but really couldn't tell how they do it.

They stomp on them to open them. Seriously. I've watched them do it many times. Also watched them stand on their hind legs and kick the chestnuts down out of the tree with their front hooves.
