I am new to the forum though I have been lurking a while. My wife and I just moved from Washington State to Nashville because she got a job at the zoo! I am a pretty avid hunter which was mostly duck and pheasant at home due to our limited deer season. Now after moving down here I have been trying to find good public land to hunt deer on since the seasons are so much longer here! I have been to Percy Priest WMA and Cheatham so far just trying to get a feel for the land.

Tracking deer is quite a bit different here but starting to get the hang of it. Haven't seen any deer on public land yet but figure it is still early especially as I don't know the area real well yet. I am really enjoying Tennessee so far.

Really hope I get to meet you some of you guys soon, whether it is for a hunt or just grabbing lunch sometime and getting to meet some fellow locals!

Welcome to Tennessee!

There is a lot of good info on this site so stick around. You will learn alot about hunting whitetails in Tennessee on here.

Yeah there is a lot of land out there and with the seasons being so much longer it is hard to know when someone else was in the same area as you earlier that day or the day before. We also never hunted out of tree stands which is very different for me, being slightly afraid of heights adds another level! I soon figured out why though. You can't be quiet enough in the woods here to put on a good stalk unless it is raining. At least not in the areas I have been in so far.

Welcome to Tennessee, not all but most public land is hunted to death, best to find a lease, your are on the right website, because the people on here are great, and willing to helping others,

Not sure my wife will let me get a lease this soon after moving so far away haha. I have a friend who has some private farm land he hunts but I don't want to always have to bug others just to be able to get out and hunt. I don't mind not always getting deer, although I would like to at least see a few haha. I found a place on Cheatham that looks like it had deer moving through but no idea when as the only dropping were a couple weeks old. There are a lot of draws all moving into this spot though so going to hunt it at least a time or two more and hope for the best.

Thanks for the great welcome guys!
