I've not been ignoring your post; been trying to read up on the 2500. I've never used one but I might be able to give some ideas for the false signals.
That could be a product of the machine not being able to handle the ground minerals you are in. I could be wrong, but my understanding by reading the manual and such, is that the machine only has a preset ground balance for disc mode BUT has a ground balancing mode for its all metal mode. Chances are that you are not hunting in all metal; thus you are running the machine in factory preset ground balance that comes with operating in disc mode. That is good for about 75% of the US but we live in one of those areas that make up that other 25%. This ground is TOUGH! That is my first guess. If you are in an open area that you know doesn't have any metal in it....and are still getting false signals....it's the detector not being balanced in the ground.
The other ideas are not that great but some times the simple things can cause big problems. Check your sensitivity level...make sure you're not running it too hot. That can cause false signals and erratic operation. Especially if its falsing when you barely bump the coil against something (say tall weeds for example). If its doing that, back the sens down a little.
Another place to look is to see how high you are setting you discrimination. Some times if you have it set too high...even though you're not wanting to hear the "trash" targets...those trash targets can sometimes bleed through to the "good target" range, and give just a little blip. I run my machines with no discrimination and if the machine has target ID, I will run it in all metal just to be able to hear everything.
