An average of 4.5 QBs per year become first time starters in the NFL. Meaning they start at least one game at some point. Since Heupel started coaching QB's that were draft eligible (2010) that would mean 67 new QBs have gotten a starting opportunity. Sam Bradford, Dillon Gabriel, Joe Milton, Drew Lock, and Landry Jones have all started games. So, he has coached 7.5% of all new starters since becoming a coach. I can't imagine who has coached more.

the nfl is looking for a special type of player. Must be 6ft 4 ideally, must have a huge arm, must be smart and must have played under center (not just in gun). heupel offense does seek qbs that meet that criteria. people used to say the nfl is looking for the next patrick mahommes, the reality is that they are all looking for the next josh allen. few schools seek those kind of prospects,. allen played at a jr college then wyoming- an afterthought till he measured 6ft 5 and 240 pounds and was overthrowing recievers 80 yards downfield on his pro day. same can be said for justin herbert,
