What is the best stuff to eliminate grasses and weeds in clover?

I'm going to try and establish some clover roads, and my FIL has around 50 acres in clover (varied levels of success). I'm also trying to get him to plant a bottom fall attractant plot in a combo of peas, grains, and red clover.

When is the ideal time to mow to promote clover growth and choke out grasses?

Thanks for the help guys.

There was an article in NWTF's Turkey Country about your very question. I don't have the mag with me but can post the herbicide it mentioned later.

I personally like clethodim for grasses and 24DB for weeds. Raptor is supposed to be awesome if you have chicory in the mix but very expensive initially.

You also need to add crop oil with the clethodim to get a good burn down on the grasses.

Clethodim with crop oil and AMS if you have serious grass problems Poast work pretty good also. Raptor and Pursuit are the go to herbicides for most broadleaves and they get some grasses also. 2-4DB works on most broadleaves if you can get them when they are small and it is the least expensive.
