Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the Bag targets on the practice range have been removed by TWRA . They were in bad shape. If you want to practice out there you will need to bring your own target.

they were in bad shape for a long time. the last time I was there for a trad shoot, I shot clean through one of them with my longbow.

DavidK and I shot out there this evening. We have been taking our own targets for sometime now since the targets were so bad. Any idea if they will be replaced? If they are replaced, I sure hope they don't close that area off as an archery range altogether.

I hope not too. they have been restricting the area for the 3D shoots smaller and smaller over the past couple of years like they don't want us there. it seems to be catering to the cycling crowd. I wonder if that crowd buys any lake permits?

From my understanding they (TWRA) just does not have the funds to buy new targets at the present time. I believe they are trying to figure out a short term solution with building some targets but that's about all I know. I don't get the feeling they are wanting to run the Archery shooters off in fact they have been very helpful in removing trees, cutting the field and helping out in other ways with the 2 clubs. I was pretty disappointed at first when they moved the 3-d range a few years ago but it has worked out pretty well. Just hoping that TWRA can come up with some funds.

By the way last Wolf River Shoot is Sept 12 and Lost Tribe has added a shoot on Sept 19th

I had gotten a different comment from a retired TWRA officer a few years ago. he has the same feeling as I do because we shoot together at the LT shoots. one of the trail loops access was removed from the shoots and he was told because the cyclers 'feared for their lives'.

It was usually the bike riders who decided even though there was archery shoot going on they would go were ever they felt like going no matter what. But since the move I can not think of one instance where there were any issues with the bike riders or walkers. In my opinion every thing seems to be going pretty smooth along those lines.

As far as the targets lasting. Seems the best targets so far have been the Butt Targets and they last about 2 or 3 years with year round shooting. Not sure about the shipping cost but 6 cost $1200
