I have noticed in my hay and soybean fields, several lone hens (not together but several of them) feeding alone witb no poults. Does this mean that they didnt have a clutch? Nest destroyed? Or just left the nest to feed. Have seen 1 hen with poults.

If they are singles, they may be still on the nest and taking a short break to feed or water. They may also be birds who have started a new clutch and are laying. Some may not be nesting, but haven't yet grouped up with their social group because their friends are setting or have new poults.

If they are grouping back up with other hens.this late in the season, they have not and will not hatch this year, for whatever reason.
