Henry Pump 22 lr

I went out this past Sat. (1/24/15) and bought a new Henry pump 22. I wanted something that would handle 22 shorts. I bought a couple boxes of CCI 22 shorts and couldn't wait to get home and give it a try. I was pretty disappointed when I filed the tube and gave it it's 1st cycle. Jam, there's about an 1/8" gap between the barrel chamber and the ramp that feeds it. It will cycle 22lr's but shorts jam just below the chamber evey time. :( Pretty dissappointed. I gave Henry firearms a call this morning and the conversation started out ok until she said have you tried a few different types of ammo? & each rifle has it's own "personality"...??? I told her I felt the rifle was defective if I had to search for something that would work. She is sending a shipping label, but she had a pretty thick attitude because I didn't want to search the world for 22 shorts (ammo isn't so easy to find these days) I'll keep this updated as it unfolds. That's a pretty expensive little rifle I didn't expect to have quality issues. Arrgh!

I could maybe understand the Henry employee's response about individual rifles having different ammo preferences if you ware talking about accuracy or even feeding with a semi-auto, but feeding of a pump rifle shouldn't be that ammo sensitive. Also as you said, it's not exactly easy to get different 22 ammo to experiment with nowadays. Especially shorts! I had been buying the Remington shorts for my daughter to practice with in her Cricket rifle until the ammo crisis came along. Haven't bought any of those in well over 2 years.

It'll be interesting how they handle your rifles problem. I can see why you'd want such a rifle for sure. The classic look and feel of a pump rimfire with the almost silent crack of a 22short - how could you not like that? Henry prides itself on being American made so this is their chance to prove they are a company that cares about it's customers.

I agree Hunter, all guns shoot some ammo better than others. I'm hoping they'll make it right, I'll be shipping it back to them tomorrow. Even at that it's pretty frustrating to have to send a new gun off to get it to work.

Well I got my 22 back today! I couldn't wait to pull it out of the box and cycle a couple 22 shorts through it... just wish it wouldn't jam on every one of them. Can't believe it, I'll be making another call tomorrow. 2 weeks left in small game season right? Arrrgh!

I know they are suppose to be good guns. But I know several people they have their 22 pumps and levers and they all have had major jamming issues

Well I called this morning about 9 am. She said they'd replace it, took my email address (again) to send me a shipping label. Thought I'd get it right away like I did for the repair. Guess it'll be after the weekend. What happened to customer service and quality craftsmanship?... I guess it's more like buyer beware. :shock:

Forgot to say she said they'd put a rush on it too, so I'd at least get to hunt with it beore season ended... here's a big surprise. Season ended yesterday and no Henry pump to hunt with. I'll give them a call tomorrow and just ask or a refund, no way they can make me a satisfied customer at this point.

I'd say Henry Arms moto should be "Buyer beware".

Thought I'd bring this up to date. This is unbelievable, I went to Henry rifles web site and saw where the president/owner of the company personally guarantee's satisfaction. He also has his email there so I responded. Following is our conversation so far. (sorry long read)

Me: I just saw on your site that you personally guarantee that I'd be happy I bought a Henry rifle. I bought one a month ago, a pump 22 that is listed to use short, long, and long rifle. Out of the box it wouldn't feed CCI shorts HP our round nose. I contacted your factory, shipped it there 2 weeks later I got it back. Still won't feed 22 shorts. Contacted again and told the lady I really wanted to be able to hunt with it this year... about 2 1/2 weeks left in the season (at that time) she said that Henry would replace the rifle and expedite shipment. She was to email me a shipping label it was Friday morning. I called Monday and talked to a gentleman that immediately emailed a shipping label. I sent the rifle, expecting that it would in fact be rushed back, season ended Sat Feb 28 here in TN. No I didn't get to use the $450 Henry 22 pump I purchased. At this point the only thing I care to get from Henry is my money back. It'll probably show up tomorrow, but season is over.
I'm at work and don't have the box with the serial number, since you've shipped to me I'm sure you can find my gun there.

Mr Imperto: Very sorry to hear this. I can only assume we never tested with shorts here when it came in. I can replace this gun with another pump, or a H001T, or a H004 Golden Boy - any of which I will make sure work with 22 Shorts.
Have you shot the gun with 22 LR ?

Me: Mr Imperato, I checked it with LR's after I saw it wouldn't feed the shorts,
it did feed, but I didn't fire it (I was at my house). I bought it to
squirrel but mostly coon hunt, with shorts. Since season is over I'd prefer
to just get a refund. I'll look for the receipt if you'd like a copy of it.
I bought it at Specialty Arms 2 in LaVergne TN. Pretty sure it was on sale
for $437 + 9.75 tax and $10 to make sure I was legal. Thanks for your time.

I wanted the pump, I believe the model is H003T ? At this point I'd rather get a refund, hunting season is over until next year. I had planned on hunting with it but again, season ended Feb 28th here in TN.

The gun would cycle 22LR's, but I didn't fire any. When I saw it wouldn't feed the shorts I boxed it back up to ship back. All I have are CCI shorts, hard to find 22 shells these days let alone 22 shorts. I have about 8 boxes of the CCI's. I understand some guns are more accurate with different shells, but we aren't talking accuracy here just feeding into the chamber.

That has been the problem, it is at your facility, I didn't have it for hunting season and I still do not have it. You emailed me a shipping label today, but I have nothing to ship. This has turned into a nightmare. After his continued suggestion to try severaly brands of ammo I wanted to tell him there should be an organization of Sporting Arms & Ammunition Manufactuers Instute, they could call it SAAMI for short. Maybe make the 1st part of their agenda "Creating and publishing industry standards for safety, interchangeability, reliability and quality" so folks could buy any ammo of that caliber and have it work... I restrained myself. But after that last email he started getting angry... here it is.

Mr Imperato: Mr G thank you but a replacement that was triple checked using shorts went out yesterday. If you still don't want we will refund your money. I would suggest that you shoot it but with a different box of 22 short. We tested your original gun with our variety of shorts and all functioned no issues whatsoever.

Me: Mr I, I didn't realize you had shipped another gun after I requested a refund. I'd rather have a gun that I didn't have to sort through several ammunition manufactures to find a bullet that will feed. 22 ammunition, especially 22 shorts are hard to come by these days. So I prefer to take you at your word and ship the gun back, for a full refund. I've already emailed a copy of the receipt, but I'll attach it again. Is this still acceptable? If so I will ship immediately when it arrives.

Just as a note, after all this I went to the SAAMI site. Interesting that "CCI" the brand ammo I'm shooting is a voting member but Henry Arms isn't involved in any way shape or form. SAAMI Member companys's < LINK

Hate to hear. Maybe they will refund. This is not the first instance I have heard this happening with Henry.
