Help with stock/forearm Marlin 336 44 mag

I bought a Marlin 336 in 44 Mag, it's sweet. Only prob the guy who had it painted the furniture black. He was in a gun club & he said they do all their guns that way. It's no rattle can job & it looks great but I'd like to see the walnut again. Any suggestions on stripping & refinishing? Or could I buy replacements reasonable? Here's some pics, like I said its sweet, even got the X'S Ghost Ring Lever rail. Thanks, RH

Paint stripper should work without damaging the wood. Then, clean, stain, and tru oil.

Yup. And an old tooth brush will help get the paint out of the checkering.

There's one called gun stock, I believe. It gives that reddish color that you see on most stocks.

I wish I knew the type of paint. It's a really slick job, flat but glossy & almost has a little texture.
