Ill be shooting a full form 325g FTX out of a 25'' Sendero profile Remington/PacNor, I have not been able to located any Hodgens 4198 I thought I had some IMR 4198 but I cant seem to find it. I do have IMR 3031. I also have most all the powders that you would use to duplex. This is my first Rodeo with the smokeless MZ but I am not new to reloading. I am not recoil sensitive at all and am use to heavy recoiling loads, I would like to get the full potential of this bullet, while staying with in the safe pressure range. Saying that I Know that its going to kick the snot out me. There is not a lot of load info on the FTXs out there so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I personally wouldn't go over 10/50 SR4759/IMRorH4198 with the 325 and Sendero contour. I HAVE NOT SHOT THIS LOAD, so check at Dougs.

The 3031 is quite slow and will have to be boosted. You will also probably have to enlarge your primer flame channel and go with a .40 bushing to set it off well. I wouldn't go this direction with a standard .45. JMO.

Thanks that's in the neighborhood of what I was thinking, I am going to go with which ever of the 4198 that I can find, and duplex with the SR 4759 most of the load info out there on the .458 FTXs is for .50 cal Savages with a sabot, not much out there for the .45s.

Look for load info for 310 APB and 325 (327) Match Hunters. I know they shoot the 310 APB full form with 70gr H4198 so a starting load for a duplex would be as mentioned 10/50 4759-H4198 then work up on main charge carefully. If you do a search on user deadeye on Doug's he has shot the 327 Match Hunters with 3031 but I believe he boosted with H4198.

According to the traces ive seen, i would look again for some 4198. The pressure it creates is more favorable with bullets in the 300-325gr range and a lighter contour barrel.

Reloder7 and 10X may work also but they create a bit more pressure. Reloder7 is also dirtier. I have not actually shot 10X but its also double based and is likely a bit dirty.

I think Richard just tried some 3031 boosted with Clays and he got quite a bit of muzzle flash and somewhat poor fps. It might be better with bullets in the 350gr range but i cant say for sure.

Midsouth has been having H4198 in stock...
