help with pricing.

I don't have a rifle for my smallest boys and need either a .223 ot .243. So of course I'll have to sell a few safe queens.

I have a Stephens 5100 16 ga double barrel.

I have a revelation 20ga pump.

I have a new Haven 600ct 20 ga.

I believe the two 20 ga are interchangeable with mossberg 500 parts.

Roughly what are these worth? I am thinking selling or trading and don't know what they are worth.

skip the 223 or 243 and get him a 7mm08 , look at the new Mossberg patriot youth that comes with the stock parts as he gets older you can add the spacer to make it adult gun...We bought 2 of these last year and they shoot great....

thanks for the input but what about felt recoil. I have a very small frame 12 year old and a 3 year old?

Use a lighter grained bullet or reduced recoil loads. A 7-08 and 243 use the same parent case. Both rounds are based off the 308. You can buy the reduced recoil loads over the counter or the lower grain bullets. Shot placement is key to any kill shot on an animal. Practice time on the range is a necessity.

I hope this is for the 12 year old. I would not let a 3 year old behind a high power rifle.

The 3 year old won't be shooting a high powered for a while yet but I am considering him when I make a purchase.

I am not pushing the 7-08. Just saying it is possible. If you really want to go the 243. Do it. It is the caliber I bought for my daughters. Had them shooting 85 grain bullets at the range. Many deer were killed with the setup. Neither of them have time to hunt. I hunted with it when it got really cold. Having a sweat shirt, a heavy coat and backpack on it was easy to shoot with the short stock. The short barrel was handy also. It is a Remington. I don't gun hunt anymore. But I try and take church kids and locals kids who's parents don't hunt. It is the rifle they use for practice and hunting. They need to be able to hit a 4 inch circle at 100 yards consistantly before I will take them.

My 11 year old grandson loves shooting the 7mm-08 and he's small frame, he is shooting the Hornady 120 gr. reduce recoil....as he gets older he can shoot the 140 gr. bullet out of the gun..He killed his first buck this year with it...I like it better than the 243 because of better bullet weights...I'm shooting the Hornady american whitetail 129 gr. out of the other one...
