Help with noise.

I need help Making tree stands more quiet. I use an old man vision climber And a lonewolf Alpha. With the lone wolf climbing sticks. I'm looking for a way to make my climbing sticks quieter. I know that they sell stealth strips for my climbing sticks but they are $25 a set. I have read were people use black electrical tape for sound deadedening to prevent metal on metal contact and I have also heard of people using bicycle inner tube's. I was worried that the innertube's might smell really bad and I just wasn't sure if the electrical tape would be effective.


As for the shooting rail on my climber I was either going to use pipe insulation or maybe black electrical tape.

I'm also aware that you can fill the holes with that great foam product and I plan on doing that soon.


What are some solutions you guys have found that works well for reducing metal on metal noise and for general sound deadening

Like always I'm Trying the most cost effective methods first.

You've already listed some good ones,
but one of the more practical things I've discovered recently is Gorilla brand camo duct tape.
The Gorilla brand is absolutely NOT shiny like most other brands.
And it comes in great camo patterns.

I use Gorilla camo tape to wrap climbing sticks, you name it.
You'll dampen the noise more if you spray them with rubber dip spray,
wrap a layer of electrical tape, then use the Gorilla camo tape as the outer layer.

My worry with tape and spray on paint, that while it cuts down on noise, the odor is there. I put some spray on paint items in the sun to cook off the odor. So for me, unless I do it in advance of the deer season start, I try to be less noisy best I can. However, once the leaves are on the ground its unavoidable not being noisy walking through the woods.

You can try wrapping in para cords metal items as alternative as well and go slow in climbing. For me deers busted me from smell, sweat, than anything else.

With Gorilla duct tape, I don't think odor is much issue.
May actually decrease odors, since it's more a smooth surface,
rather than textured cloth.

Fill any hollow tubing with spray foam. Really helps in deadening the metal "clang".

I use the pipe insulation and cover it with some of my old camo then zip tie it. I carry a couple of extra zip ties in my pack in case one does break. That only happens late in the season with colder weather if it does happen. It lasts me the whole season plus no tape goo or painting and they are easy to change out for whatever reason.

NSG, this is what I did to my XOP air raid and it had made a big difference in quietness when hanging. It's just 1550 paracord. About 12 bucks for 150 feet which is about what you'll need for your alpha. You could probably do the same thing on your climber rail but I might use a size up in the paracord. Works great though.

For your sticks, I'd check check out a craft store. I found some felt that had adhesive backing for less than half of what stealth strips cost. It's not camo though if that will bother you. I'd stay away from duct or electrical tape, i tried that and it's just too shiny imo. You can find camo athletic tape at places though and that would work depending on the sticks you have. Hope this helps.

It's called a cobra weave. YouTube search diy sportsman cobra weave and that video walks you through it. It took me a few tries to get it started but once you get the hang of it it's easy.

Where my sticks sit when packing in, I just wrapped regular so there's no exposed metal for the teeth of the sticks to come in contact with.
