I'm a fan of core-lokts.... 180gr in 300, 140gr in 7mm..
I kno a lot of guys don't like'em but most deer I shoot with the 300 never take a step. Shots are usually 150-250yds.
I've shot deer at 30yds and they seem to run just a little ways, 50yds or less.

Before I started loading I had tried dang near everything I could find for my 7mm mag. It's favorite was Winchester Supreme with the Nosler BT's. I think they were 150gr, with nickel cases.

You will have a very interesting Summer.

I handload so I have not much to contribute. My 280 is in love with the 140 grain weight.......My 300 model 70 likes 150's and the A-Bolt likes anything, its got the BOSS. I only stick 180's in the mag but it does 125's pretty good.

Buddy of mine has a young son shoots a 7 with reduced loads. Not because the kid can't handle the recoil but because dead being dead, the lower velocity does the deed.

A 300 with say a 180 or heavier would be pushing around 2500 FPS in factory stuff and that will roll them over from 300 in no problem.

x2 on 180 core-lokts for 300wm. I never tried the 150's. I killed a 225 pd pig with a 180. Went in one shoulder and lodged in the opposite shoulder. Bullet expansion was about perfect. It probably would have blown out the other side except for the shoulder plate was around 3/4 inches thick.

I use 150g corelocks in my 300wm,I have killed some with 165g SST years ago with good results but the extra $ wasn't needed. I have had runners up to 100y being heart shot with it but a blind man could track them, big blood trails couldn't believe how far a deer can go and be wounded so bad as in hole in hole out  . I have had more bang flops with my 243 as long as I wasn't using a premium bullet that made 2 holes.
