Ok I tried to go hunt AEDC last week to no luck at spotting any deer while in a stand so if anyone knows the area can you tell me what I am doing wrong.

The first day I was soaking up the rain in area 5 on the road parralel to the camping road towards the end of the road. It is trail c. I noticed that it looked like a lot of tracks that came across the trail and ran along the trail. Did not see a thing in that area both am and pm Friday and am on Sat. I tried to go to area 6 on sat but not sure where to hunt. There are a lot of fields that are real thick that I seen a few in but would be hard to hunt do I look at the side of those fields where the trees are that I can climb. Dont get me wrong I don't want the gps cords to where any trophy buck is I am just trying to learn what I need to help teach my girls to go out.

I may not be doing some thing wright as I tried Cedars also with no success.
 
AEDC is full of cedar tickets with adjacent open hard woods. Set up on the down wind edge of the Cedar tickets and sooner or later one will come out. Especially 0930-1000 when many hunters quit for a mid day break and run deer to you.
 
One of the place by the food plots in 6 there are some thick cedar area's then some hardwoods but they are not far from the road I was going to hunt that but surly they would not come out close to the road. I will have to go futher over and look. I am hoping to be out there friday am if I get work done this week.
 
Don't discount a place just because it is near a road. Odds are that no one else hunts it because of location and the deer are accustomed to the noise and traffic. One of my most productive sites on my lease is a field/wooded area that butts up against a service road next to I-40 in Wilson County. You can't hear yourself think in that stand because of the interstate traffic but deer come out into that field virtually everyday.
 
I used to hunt AEDC for years but quite 3 or 4 years ago because of the drastically reduced deer numbers. It's not even a shadow of what it used to be as far as deer numbers. They used to allow only 1 antlered deer per hunt(2day weekend hunt) but ten or maybe 15 years ago, they started allowing 2 does per hunt. Well, obviously it helped balance out the herd at 1st. It was drastically out of whack with does outnumbering buck ridiculously. My problem with the way it is being managed though is that once they got the numbers more in balance, they kept on killing does wholesale. It was almost like they want to eliminate the deer population. I used to hunt there purely for the experience of always and I mean ALWAYS seeing lots of deer. After several years of going and seeing NOTHING, I quit wasting my time.

I notice they did cut the doe number back to just 1 per hunt this year. I still think even that is too much. The does need a couple of years to bounce back. QDM is a good thing but if the majority of hunters go and see nothing so a very few can kill a big buck, that's not going to help the future of hunting.

I think I know where you are talking about.I was in there friday in the rain.I didnt see much for deer but I did see 5 turkeys.
 
EastTnBuckmaster, I don't doubt you. I know some really big der are coming out of AEDC in the past several years but the total number of deer killed is so low that any given hunter has practically no chance of killing nor even seeing a deer.

I wish they would change their management plan as AEDC used to be my favorite place to hunt. Now I hunt on my own land exclusively - except that for small game I still go up to AEDC. The place has too many good memories to totally abandon it. :)
 
It was the late hunt. We saw a ton of deer. Bucks were chasing does everywhere. I'm ready to go back. I'm looking forward to the day after thanksgiving. We have kinda a little honey hole down there.
